I can provide a little insight. A Warner exec LOVED the band so much that on his own time and dime, tracked down the licensing of cartoons like Betty Boop, edited them himself too..... What he made: the things we now know as the Groovies, which are old-school WB cartoons synced to SC's music. Doughty thought they were cheesy and wanted a video that featured his face (a bit of a "rockstar" moment), much to the chagrin of said Warner exec and the other 3 in the band that loved the Groovies. Mark Degliantoni (sampler player, the man in this video with the red balloons) described this video as "forgettable" and essentially selfish on Doughty's part for not only looking a gift horse in the mouth as far as the Groovies go but to specifically want his face in the video for recognition. Doughty was also really getting zonked out of his mind on heroin at this point (1998) with said addiction reaching its boiling point in late 1999/2000 with the band ending. I'm a huge fan and have read a lot about them. Sad story. I heard some demos done along with some live material for a possible 4th album.... Makes you wonder what could have been. As for their solo careers, Doughty really didn't slack, I must admit, everything up until 2013 was really great. Lately, he's kinda been lacking for his songwriting, lyrically and replacing live musicians with computers, so to make a pun, even though the gas is running out, he can't just wreck it.... haha. He's likely never going to make another Haughty Melodic but a Skittish II might be something that can save the ship from sinking all the way.
@SuperKamio6 жыл бұрын
Mr. Doughty doesn't even to seem to like his old music with this band. There are surprising/not surprising reasons for this that he wrote in a book. He still plays this one at shows so I think it survived his distancing himself from his hoary crufted and weird past musical career. That aside 'Wreck it, you insured the thing' is something I hope to see spray painted on an the side of an Enterprise or other car rental place one day.
