@@HattoHem i will, thank you so much! I've watched all 3 and so far they make perfect sense. Haha i loved that you had to keep yourself from saying chemise!

I just found this sew along series and I purchased this pattern set as a Christmas gift for myself. I’ve already made a linen shift last fall, turned out great, but I’m glad I found your channel I can see how you will be making it too. Everything is intimidating right now!

Part of me thinks we always start with shifts and chemises because they're so easy and give us confidence for the rest ;P I really hope these videos help you. It's definitely intimidating to start on a project like this, but you got this!!!

My main gripe with the American Duchess pocket hoops pattern is that they are faux hoops, not actual side hoops ^^;; it was a gripe for me because I wanted to use them as pockets lol (for purse, phone etc, when made into actual pockets they can hold a surprising amount! It's like having two backpacks strapped to your hips) Norah Waugh 'Corsets and Crinolines' has a pocket hoops pattern that are from extant garments. The book is available in pdf format for free online! (Also has numerous stays patterns in it too) Patterns of Fashion 5 just came out recently too! They have a crazy number of stays in there plus some other patterns too! Not sure if you knew about that one or not! They are all from extant garments too! Disregard all above if you already know it! That said I look forward to watching your 18th century journey!

I really hope this video series helps you! I really tried to make it following the pattern as easy as possible. I know that new projects can be intimidating so I wanted to take as much guesswork out as possible!

2:50 how do you transfer patterns over to other paper? What paper do you use?
@HattoHem5 жыл бұрын
I keep it pretty straightforward. I just buy a roll of paper from Amazon or IKEA. Then, if the paper is a little translucent, I'll put it on top of the pattern and trace over the lines with a pencil. If the paper is more opaque, I'll put the pattern on top and trace the lines with a tracing wheel I bought at Joann's. Sometimes I'll go over the imprint with pencil before cutting, sometimes I'll just cut along the imprints. It's a lot faster to just cut the pattern, but I'm not a fan of that because as soon as I cut it, I need it for another project in a different size.

Between the 2 patterns, which would you recommend for someone who has less sewing experience?
@HattoHem4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, they were both pretty similar. I think I'll get more use out of the more accurate shift and the pockethoops in 8579 since I didn't even make up the false rump in the other pattern since the one in the American Duchess book looked very different from the one in the pattern. (Plus, if you get the 8579 pattern, you can follow along with my videos while you make it!)

So thanks for the awful ad about chickens. Didn't need to see that when I came here to watch your tutorial about sewing. Maybe consider changing to something a little less graphic, out of nowhere without any warning!? I just really didn't need to see that today. Thanks

I'm so sorry that an ad was upsetting. Unfortunately, I don't have control of the ads KZbin puts on my videos. I hope if you try to watch this video again, you can either skip the ad or it will play a different one.

@@HattoHem Thanks for replying. Sorry I was a bit upset. I didn't realise you have no control over that. I really appreciate your kindness in your response, and I really enjoy your content. Thank you.
