Great concept. I have a couple of suggestions. You can’t always get 18inches out of a fat quarter because they are cut unevenly. I would press each seam as they are sewn. Also, I would backstitch the seams that hold the bag together

Wouldn't I maybe tack down the handle cover thing so it doesn't slip and then reveal the shame of my mangled zigzagging I'll be doing? Or would that just make it worse?
