Maybe try a hump jumper (or a piece of rolled up fabric) to help get over the thicker bits of fabric. It goes under the back of the presser foot, making it easier to control the fabric and keep the lines straight 😊

Love all the info.. I worked out that when topstitching the pockets on I start below the top of the pocket on the side, then stitch all the way round the pocket and back and then finish where I started, then pull threads to the back. So you have 2 lines of topstitching and finish on the thinner edge rather than the extra thick top edge. 😅
