Great video. Love all the explanations & sewing terms like what stitch in the ditch is. So useful. I’m planning on making mini packing cubes to use up my scraps. Plus, I’m obsessed with small organisation pouches & bags 😅😁

I've been wanting to make zippered crochet hook or knitting needle cases. This seam will work to beautifully finish the inside. Thank you.

I wish you would shows us how to do it entirely. I'm a newbie visual sewer and can't follow written directions unless they show step by step pictures.

It's not a beginner project. But you can do it if you use the written pattern and the video. If not....save the video link and print the pattern. Then come back when you are a more confident sewer. The first step that strikes fear into most new sewers is starting and cutting the fabric. Don't cry if you making a cutting error. Just set it aside and cut a correct piece. Take it step by step. 1. Cut out the fabric to dimensions and LABEL each piece, including which side is front....pin a piece of paper to each piece with dimensions. Rewrite the instructions as necessary for your clarity.

I've made three of these, but I am still having issues with getting those curves to look good when doing the enclosed seam. Definitely not an easy project, but I do love using my cubes for travel.

Thanks for the brilliant way to enclose the seams! I've been experimenting how to do this and your method is just exquisite! Do you find it better to extend the bottom seam width or the side panel's seam? Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to share your techniques! I truly appreciate your skills!

Made case #4. It does help to baste the bottom piece and the side pieces before using the technique to enclose the seam. Still not doing a great job on meeting the zipper ends in the front.

Hi, video is great! Only thing missing is showing how you added the trim around the inside of the mesh insert. Would it be possible to post a link so we could see how this is done? Thanks.

I learned something new however the beeping of the sewing machine was not only distracting, but highly annoying. since I was watching on my phone, I keep looking for emails or text messages until I realized it was the machine...and there was no way to silence it.

I thought she was going to go over how she sewed the mesh part :(
@just1desi
@just1desi 6 жыл бұрын
River Bound it’s actually the easiest part of the whole thing the mesh. 1) First step is you should use a bit of tape perhaps brown or an small piece of an envelope address label tape and mark right side on it then stick that on the mesh so you can keep track of right side wrong side as this is important to know as you stitch. 2) Careful of the width of your stitch as you do this part or the assembled top will not be the required 10.5 x 15.5 when you are done (I had to cut and start again twice, once I used the wrong piece of fabric to wrap so my bound seams were facing the wrong direction and showing through the mesh and the second time I used too wide a seam allowance so it ended up a bit larger than 1/4 inch and the final put together piece was 9.5x15 or something instead of the correct measurements) 3) First stitch- set machine needle a bit over to towards the right. If you have numbers you can go from 2.5 to 2 or to 1.5. If no numbers basically what you want is for this first stitch line to be less than 1/4 inch. So a very narrow seam. This is because when hold the newly stitched seam flat and you lift the fabric straight up at a right angle, then flip it over and down to hide the raw edge inside this little hug you will have a bit of extra fabric taken off your measurements. 4) Place mesh (after marking right side with tape) together with the 3 1/2 x 5 1/5 fabric together along the 5.5 length edge wrong sides facing. Careful not to stretch the mesh as you sew. Use the less than 1/4 inch machine setting or position cloth to achieve that if your machine does not have a needle you can shift. Sew seam. 5) The mesh is a weird section to press and the seam is pretty short so you can finger press it. Open mesh and cloth out so wrong sides are flat on your work surface. Press seam flat onto cloth side. Lift cloth up while keeping seam flat. Fold cloth over flat seam to hide edge. Lay cloth along the mesh right sides together. Here you can flip for easier sewing. You should have a seam hidden in a burrito style wrapping of cloth facing flat and away from the mesh. With the mesh wrong side up and facing you now, you can take to the machine, set machine back to centre for a proper and normal 1/4 inch stitch and stitch in the ditch to seal off your burrito wrap. When you open this out your seam should be directly under your fabric. Nothing showing through the mesh and should not measure more than 1/4 inch to preserve your measurements. 6) Using your assembled piece as one, repeat steps 1-5 starting with the second 3 1/5 x 5 1/2 piece, match it up wrong sides together along the 5.5 end, stitch less than 1/4 inch etc. etc. ... then you do the same with the two cut long sides (the two 3 1/2 x 15 1/2 pieces) that make up the rest of the bag top. Remember to be careful not to stretch the mesh.
