I think these bags could be a very good fund raiser. Finding large, washable, repairable, shopping bags to buy is almost impossible to do around here. I like the drawstrings better than a zipper (because the drawstring top can drop down inside until needed). Wonderful. Thank you for this video.

I finally made this and it came out sooo good! I used an old pair of pants, a couple of pillow cases and scavenged a cord and cord lock from a torn ski bag. I made it for a homeless man I've sort of made friends with over the years. He absolutely loved it, especially the drawstring part. Things kept falling out of his old bag and he didn't like people being able to see his stuff. I told him about finding instructions for it on KZbin. Twice before we parted ways, he told me to be sure to thank "that nice KZbin lady". So thank you and thank you again, nice KZbin lady, for helping me make a very sweet man's life a little easier. 🥲💖

LOVE having my dogs around when I’m sewing or just puttering. My newest is a fox red, six year old Pomeranian with brown ears. He was a stray in a sorry state, and was rescued by a Humane Society in a town 4.5 hours away. He likely was a kennel dog used by a backyard breeder. So sad; who throws away a seven pound, six year old dog? I named him Buddy Fuzzbutt 😂. I’m sure you already know this: you can purchase shoelace aglets and a crimping tool, and turn any length of cord into shoelaces. Or, just give drawstrings a more polished look. They also keep the ends from fraying. It’s an extra step, but doesn’t take more than a moment. Add an extra 50¢ to the price, and the customer doesn’t have to look at frayed cords after the first washing.

Great bag Christine! Love the drawstring top , flexible for those of us who overfill the bag . Nothing like this in retail so you can sell this on your shopping site. Will make these as gifts for 2023. By 2024 , it will be illegal to import or sell single use plastic in my country. So these will be great shopping bags for all goods , not just grocery. The secure closure of the drawstring is better than having zippers. Expandable with ease. Thank you for great video. Maybe you remake the video with the opening on side seam on the inside lining so we can follow it as we sew. I agree with you that is better for turning the bag . You can edit your video to redo only that part , maybe ? So you don’t have to refilm 100%. Just a thought…..
@ChristinesHomeAffairs2 жыл бұрын
It's a good thought Berneice, but KZbin doesn't allow replica videos on your channel. I might redo this again with cute kids prints and cotton fabric, and try not to forget to leave the side opening next time 😁 I'm hoping I might have a little more time this week to make a few extras for the shop.

I love this Christine. You could also do it unlined with the “magic” seam so it was still a clean edge. I have a heck of a time motivating myself to string cord so I always put it through first and then sew around it so I don’t have to string it. 😂

And thank you for showing us your dogs. I have four who are always trying to hang with me in my studio. They are beautiful

Thanks BG. I haven't heard of the "magic" seam method. Is that the same as a French seam?
@GsportsSoccer2 жыл бұрын
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs it might just be a name coined by the Sewing Channel. Basically, you take that top portion and sandwich the body of the bag but on the inside of that like a tube. Then you pull it out of one of the sides and the seam ends up on the inside of the drawstring portion. It’s just a way to hide the seam on a bag. Then you finish the inside with French seams. But I actually don’t think it would work here because it wouldn’t allow for the channel for the drawstring. Your bag is so beautiful I just love your design.

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I made another with a slight alteration. I made the drawstring fabric shorter. When drawn tight, it just meets in the center with the fabric flat rather than having excess room at the top for overflowing contents, like a big knitting project. Christine, I have been looking everywhere for this bag , but I'd like one to be 18 inches in height x 15 length x 4 I'd buy one if you had it with the two cushioned handles without a drawstring?
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Жыл бұрын
I might have to do a video on it Ray. Did you mean that you still want the extra lining to be there, but not include the string, and then you prefer handmade handles as opposed to the strapping? If so, do you mind if I ask, what would be the purpose of the extra lining if it doesn't draw the bag closed? Let me know if that's what you're thinking😀
