I tend to put off mending and refashioning too but it's such a satisfying feeling once it's done. You need swim lining instead of power mesh inside your swimsuit. It stretches with the swim fabric.

Thanks so much for the swim lining advice. Now to figure out where i can buy swim lining from!

Your refashions are fabulous. The bikini is so much better on you. The changes you made to your shop bought dresses were great. It’s nice to get more wear out of something and you’ve managed that and expertly done. Even though I’ve only been sewing just over a year, I have made loads of dresses and tops and like you, some of been good and some not so good. I have been refashioning them as and when I can be bothered. I’m so proud of all of my sewing whether they have been a success or an epic fail. I also made my very first cushion cover last week using fat quarters. Same design as yours and I love mine. I love the colour of yours and I’m now going to consider making another one using my left over Ponte fabric too. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and helpful tips on sewing. X

I'm always really inspired by your refashions and the way in which you make garments work for you. And it's so much less wasteful than having garments in your wardrobe that never get worn because they're just not quite right. I'm going to start giving it a go myself as I have so many things that I never reach for!

Love the refashion of the blue dress. I have some of that fabric in the camel colour. I don't know how much fabric I bought but I have made the Dani pinafore from Seamwork and still have plenty left. I like the skirt that you made, I may copy you! Thanks for doing these videos.

That was so inspiring! I HATE to fix or change or mend. But you called it quick and satisfying. Such a refreshing perspective I’ll have to try to adopt! LOVE the poufy blouse under the blue suede! I think if you lowered the front neckline a bit you could wear more things under it.

LOVE the cushion!! How darling! Great job on the refashions. I need to get the motivation to re-tackle my Easter dress from this year. I made a toile and got a perfect fit in the same fabric, and then had a horrid final fit. NO IDEA what happened... back to the drawing board! :)

Love your videos...fun and genuine. RE: your swimsuit. Power mesh is used for shapewear garments, not swimwear as a rule. There is specific swimsuit lining..usually available in black, white and neutrals. It is lightweight, poly/lycra or nylon/lycra with the proper stretch. Love your re-fashion into a bikini.

Dear Lizzie, I am so impressed by what you have achieved in such a short time of sewing, the remodelling of the swim suit and and the blue dress are gorgeous, I would have thought twice about the amendment you made to the back of the pants of the swimsuit, brilliant. I have just started sewing again after years, my youngest daughter is expecting her second child and she has your figure, doesn't wear dresses and last pregnancy she had just two tops that fitted. So this time I have made her the Megan Nielson Cara top which looks great on her so I shall make her more. I live in New Zealand and daughter is Australia so fitting is difficult, but so far so good. Forgotten how much I enjoy sewing. Love your vlogs

Thank you for your lovely video Lizzie, you have both distracted me from awaiting the US election outcome and encouraged me as a very newbie sewer that all my monstrous first makes are not a complete waste of time but that I probably learned a lot (I just finished this trumpet shaped skirt, thinking it would suit my rather apple body, and it's awful; wrong fabric again!) I loved all your refashions; the dresses to t-shirts, the swimsuit to a bikini, the adorable cushion and your gorgeous suede dress as well as the rich blue soft casual top - such a pretty blue! (You remember I'm here for your blues and greens!) But most of all I love the glow in your eyes as you talk about fabrics and sewing plans, thank you for sharing with us! Hope your second lockdown doesn't last too long but most importantly stay well :)

Oh, I love your turtleneck and tshirt makes! :) Your makes give me motivation to try harder to get a better finish on my own makes. I need to try out a twin needle on my machine. I've always been too scared to try them. I'm glad you got to get some motivation back from doing some quick projects. All your makes are beautiful!

Such nice makes! I was wondering about the power mesh you used for your Cottlesloe? I really like sewing lingerie and have found that whenever I do so it is best to get fabrics from designated lingerie fabric shops (plus some of them have really nice kits!) They are a bit hard to find, but there are quite a few that can be found on Etsy for example. There you can find linings in different strengths, for different purposes, different types of elastics etc. Since discovering these shops it is a lot easier to figure out which fabrics work together. On that note: when I don't feel motivated to sew (or knit) I think it is especially nice to sew bras. I am slim but athletic and never found a RTW bra in my size (without unicorns or so...). The pattern pieces look so funny, but while sewing they become a 3D object =)
@LizzieB4 жыл бұрын
I know I had sadly realised that power mesh isn’t the right thing to be lining a swimsuit with. When I was first researching what to line a swimsuit with it was one of the recommended options so I gave it a go. It’s like you’ve read my mind as I’m desperate to start making underwear!! I’m so overwhelmed by figuring out where to buy all the supplies though so I’m hoping to get hold of a kit soon. I feel like as soon as I get used to a pattern and the supplies, bras will be quick and satisfying makes!

When you use a twin needle you need the tie off the ends. Back stitching comes out.
