Hi Dale, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not much of a quilter but I love doing these little textile art projects. It's fun to use my mixed media supplies on my fabric projects. (Instead of hoarding them -Ha!)

Every time I watch this video I want to dig through my stash and make a beach scene. I love the Derwent inktense pencils and sticks. They will always be a favorite, and also have some Fabrico Markers by Tsukineko, and Tulip markers that are specially made to apply to fabric. I'll have to test these out because I've had them a while. I also have a $50 gift card from Tuesday Morning burning a hole in my pocket ! That will be fun to spend!! We're getting sun today....the first in a week and is much appreciated. Take care.

Oh Julia this little bag is just gorgeous- you have made an incredible piece of art. I have just returned from Harrogate Stitching and Knitting Show which I think you would have loved. There were so many wonderful textile artists there and I was able to talk to them and look at their work. I really loved Cas Holmes and Wendy Dolan. I was lucky enough to do two workshops with Wendy - free motion meadow and free motion seascape. I told her about your work Julia and she was going to look up up. I had a fabulous time at all the workshops and know you would have adored it too. However I am sure you have great shows in the USA. Julia have you thought of selling PDF patterns in your Etsy shop - I would certainly buy some from you. Thanks for a fabulous tutorial Julia, you area real inspiration to me. Have a wonderful week ahead, big hugs and loves always xxxxxxxx 🙋🏻😘❤️🌟

I know wants I get over the learning curve with the computer, I would love it. It's on my 2019 list! Have a great day. Julia

Hello Julia, I had left you a question on one of your old videos, regarding if you need a special foot for free motions sewing( I'm sure you do) can it work on any sewing machine and do you have them in your store. :) or can i pick them up at any sewing store.
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
Hi, So sorry I missed your question. All sewing machines are either a short shank or long shank. You will need to know that first. Your manual should tell you. The last sewing machine I purchased had this foot included. My little portable machine did not. I asked my sewing machine dealer and he found the one I needed. I would recommend purchasing at a sewing machine store. Amazon also carries them, but you need to know the type. The free motion foot is also sometimes called a quilters foot or a darning foot. Hope this helps! Julia
@noorjahanpkibrahimkutty18015 жыл бұрын
I noticed you do not use a hoop when embroidering. Is your machine special in someway or can this be done with any machine? Thanks.
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
Hi, I use a hoop only if my stitches are pulling or not laying flat. Most of my work is done on 2 layers. A cotton top layer with a piece of quilt batting underneath. This usually gives it enough stability so a hoop is not needed. If I'm only working on the cotton without the batting, I will hoop my work. Most all machines are capable of free motion stitching. The feed dogs are disengaged by lowering them with a lever or covering them with a plate. Also, you need to use a quilting or darning foot. Hope this helps. Julia

@@stitchesbyjulia Yes, it helps. Thank you. I love your videos. Very creative and seems doable although I'm yet to try.

Please help. Anyone, thanks! Is it possible to free motion quilt with a machine that does not have retractable feed dogs?
@stitchesbyjulia4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Most machines will either have a level to lower the feeddogs or a plate that covers them. If your machine has neither, yes you can free motion without disengaging the feeddogs. Here are my thoughts... After you put on the quilting foot and lower the foot, it should rest slightly above your fabric. You should be able to move the fabric. Most quilting feet have a screw that you can adjust up or down. There has been many times that I have forgotten to lower may feed dogs and it works fine but those dogs will still want to move the fabric forward so you still have to keep the fabric moving in the direction you want. There is a bit more resistance. Also I do want to let you know that I have worn my feed dogs down so much that they had to be replaced. Hope some of this helps, I would certainly give it a try. It takes practice but is so much fun once you "get" it! Thanks for watching, Julia
