In this video, I will explain how to leave a minimal amount of presser foot marks on your leather project. It can be tough choosing the right sewing machine. I hope this helps!

I have access to one of these at a maker space here in Phoenix. However, the person who knows how to use that piece of equipment isn’t there all the time, so sometimes I have no one to turn to when I have questions. Thanks for your video-I learned something and definitely feel more confident now about using that machine after watching it.

Great video thanks for sharing. My biggest problem when I got my 1541 was when I put mine together I set it at the highest table height possible as am 6’, well you probably know the foot peddle position was crazy weird. My husband and I found a way to lengthen the rod and man what a difference! It is so comfortable now. We modified a screen door tensioning rod from Home Depot and it looks original.

You can also purchase smooth feed dogs to help eliminate marks on leather.

Hi ! thanks for the recommendation. I've been sanding mine, but I did find some smother feed dogs a few weeks ago. I get almost no marks now.

Love your presentations. FYI - nylon thread breaks down from UV exposure. Many recommend bonded polyester instead. I apologize for being Mr Advice Guy from the Internet. Thanks man. Love your work.

Also - use a Hump Jumper when stitching over a thickness change. Just a plastic shim to level the presser foot at the transition point.

My mistake! I thought the Vinymo thread was nylon but it is indeed poly.

That presser foot looks like it's designed for sewing French seams. Look into HDPE tape from Rockler . I use it to reduce friction in power tool applications . It has helped some in reducing marks also . It also has helped sewing flesh side and suede since it's so sticky .

It is! I had this customized. My buddy is a machinist, and he hacked off the left side, smoothed it out, and painted it black. It was an idea I had, and it worked brilliantly. I get almost 0 presser foot marks.

You can purchase a drop down guide which you can tighten so it doesn’t slip. Ive got one and would recommend it

Hi, Thank you for the info on presser feet for this machine. Mostly I’ve found how to set up, thread, and oil videos, etc. which are helpful but aren’t everything I need to know. You mentioned reducing your thread length and said that there are other adjustments you need to consider. If you reduce your thread length do you decrease your thread tension or increase it? Does your bobbin tension remain the same? And do you change your overall presser foot tension (I think that’s what you did in this video)? Thanks again

Great design on the wallet! If you had to buy a machine again, would it be the Juki 1541S? Cobra, Tech Sew all have a speed reducer built in. Tech Sew has a laser guide and roller guide built in. I am currently looking to buy a machine to help speed production. Its very confusing, so many out there to choose from. I definitely will go with a cylinder arm, with a flatbed attachment.

What thread do I use for this juki 1541s size? Needles size? For vinyls

For Vinal, I'd use a tri-point, depending on how thick your layers are. Use tex 80-105 thread cotton poly or nylon bonded thread. If you are making garments, you may want to use a different type of thread with elastic, so you would need a separate machine. It really depends on the project you are making. needle size for this machine 135x17 or 135x16
