Fallon, I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this video. I love full tutorials and so few do it. I am definitely going to make this. And you did a few things that were really helpful to me. I'm 72 and I've been quilting since the 90's and you taught me a couple of things. I am pattern dyslexic and that contributes to how much I dislike the diagonal finish that is usually done to connect the ends of the binding. After watching you, I'll never do it again. Thank you. Please keep doing videos like this. I love Kris too. She also has a 10" square hourglass quilt that I want to make.

If you don't like the tiny strips Sew Very Easy and Misty from Missouri Star both have Argyle quilt patterns as well. I linked them in the description. Misty uses Rick Rack for the strips and Sew Very Easy uses binding tape. Those might be great options for you if you want to skip the strips! While they are fussy, I do think it gives a great look to the quilt!

I agree, Fallon: quilting does not have to be fast. Quilting is a creative process and it misses the point if you try to fly through it. That said, the quilt I’m working on now has too many 1.5-inch pieces and that becomes pretty tedious. So I just remind myself that (a) the quilt is for me so I can take as long as I need to, and (b) it’s the PROCESS that’s important. So as I’m pressing tiny seams open with my little Clover iron, I just recognize that this is all part of it. Finally, I’m working with gorgeous pink and red fabric so that also makes the process a joy. Thanks so much for this detailed video. It really was fun!

1.5" pieces are tough! Sometimes after a big projects like that I do like to do a nice quick pattern for instant gratification. Its fun to mix it up. I can't do really complicated projects all the time.

This was a brilliant tutorial and I loved seeing the whole process from start to finish. This was especially useful because it was a large quilt and being able to see how you managed the layers when sandwiching and basting it. Also how you manage the weight and bulk when quilting it on a domestic machine. So many tutorials only focus on piecing the quilt top together. It was really good seeing the whole process. I’m not surprised you did a small charm square version first, doing those cuts must have been nerve wracking, even after doing the mini version.

Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I really appreciate that you showed the whole process from beginning to end. Too many tutorials assume we can all afford to send the quilt off to a longarm to be finished. The only part missing in your tutorial is the trimming process once you have it quilted.
@sewbeitquilts
@sewbeitquilts 5 ай бұрын
You are so right! I did leave the trimming out! I knew I would get pushback because I trim right at the edge of my quilt top. I don’t try and square it. Our little secret!

Great video, I will definitely keep this one in my back pocket. My mom had a beautiful collection of purple layer cakes I've been keeping an eye out for the perfect pattern to use with them, this is probably it! Thanks for showing you basting process. I was just pin basting a quilt and was thinking that using clamps may help.....you confirmed it! Thanks for all your great videos. ❤

However, that said, there are always new to your channel who might need to see the process. So, do you darling, and we can skip along. Right? Thanks

I have done the MSQC charm pack version of this style of quilt many times. One of my favorites! I do worry about the bias edges along every side of the quilt top, though, until it is bound. I enjoy watching your quilt making process from beginning to end. Thank you for this tutorial. Great method for getting a quilt on point.

Try stay stiching the bias edges before assembly, like you would the curved part of a neckline when garment sewing.
