Haven’t read through all the comments so forgive me if this is redundant, but I recently took a Crazy Quilt class which used 9 fat quarters that was similar to this, but there were 9 pieces cut from each fat quarter. The trick to making sure each block you put together from the cut pieces are different from each other is to move pieces from each stack to the bottom of that same stack corresponding to the number of that stack. Meaning take one piece from the top of stack 1 and move it to the bottom of stack 1, take two pieces from the top of stack 2 and move them to the bottom of stack 2, take three pieces from the top of stack 3 and move them to the bottom of stack 3, take four pieces from the top of stack 4 and move them to the bottom of stack 4. It continued for the 9 stacks, but in this case the fifth stack would stay as is. Now all the pieces showing are different. Just grab the top piece from each stack and sew to make the new block. Each stack will have a different piece uncovered as each block is sewn. This is a great pattern and can’t wait to make one using just 5 pieces! Thanks for sharing!
@sewcharmingquiltshopАй бұрын
Yes, that works too. This is just easier. I hope you make it. It’s a fun block to make.
@carolynchristlerАй бұрын
Shuffling your way makes the process easy peasy! Thanks!
@denisegolding9100Ай бұрын
Seems jumbling around is much more difficult, adjusting each stack at the beginning takes so little time and ensures each piece in the block is different.
@sewcharmingquiltshopАй бұрын
It’s a preference thing. There are multiple ways to do it. No way is wrong. That’s what is so great about quilting. You do it the way you want to! 😁

Fabric addiction is WHY we quilt. Its a perfect excuse to have bins and bins of cloth )))) and still keep adding. Garden needs all day for right now but Fall is coming and Winter too, so fab time for sewing bits of cloth together eh? O yeah.... Collect now, sew later. hahahaha

That's exactly what I've been doing the last few months, since early May, here in S.E. Idaho as I began to need to use my creativity as part of my healing after losing my husband last Sept. During the cooler hours of the day or when there's a nice large area of shade, I work in my yard. While cooling down and putting my feet up, I've been shopping for fabric, floss, etc. online and watching tutorials. I'm gathering supplies for slow stitching, which is sort of similar to crazy quilting in that there's no definite pattern. But it's quite different in that the pieces are usually hand sew together and it's primarily a hand stitching sampler project for learning new-to-me embroidery stitches.
@sewcharmingquiltshop28 күн бұрын
I’m so sorry to hear short your husband. I’ll be praying for you. Keeping busy is a good idea. I’ve never done slow stitching but love hand embroidery.

This is both charming and beautiful. I absolutely love those fabrics. I wish I was there to steam press each block and row (with starch) for you so the quilt top will be perfection. All that work, to not steam iron it, drives me crazy to watch. I always iron as I sew garments or quilts. I really love what you created there. Very nice. Congratulations on another very special creation.
@sewcharmingquiltshopАй бұрын
Thank you! I starch some as I go but this partial one doesn’t really need it. Of course, that’s a preference thing. It turned out perfect with or without starching it. 😁

Wouldn't it be easier to leave one stack alone; next stack place the top fabric to the bottom of the stack; next stack take the top 2 and move to the bottom; next stack take the top 3 to the bottom; and so on? Put them together by using the top fabric from each stack.

Good tips for squaring up raw blocks ))) Make one corner square first, then trim to size. Easy. If your ruler matches the desired size, you can shuffle it around to cover the perfect view, and cut the leftovers. SO much easier than how I started "a hundred years ago". THANKS )))
