As a costume designer, I'm so happy to hear you wanting to show your clothes authentically. More people need education about this. Clothes need to look like real people wear them. So important and makes all the difference. You are doing the real work! So refreshing. Thank you!

'Clothes need to look like real people wear them' I love this comment. So much of the fashion world seems unrealistic and impractical.
@Samanthalovestosew4 ай бұрын
I’m really pleased that you support this idea - it means a lot, especially coming from a costume designer. I wear clothes made from vintage patterns, and sometimes true vintage, every day and have dogs to walk, housework to do etc. I want to wear the clothes I love and hopefully inspire others to enjoy their clothes too, not feel they have to be kept in their wardrobes for ‘best’. Or for people to feel they must reach impossible standards or give up entirely and reach for the leggings! I was so pleased to read your comment - thank you very much! 💐

It's a lovely blouse, the fabric is beautiful. I also know very well what it's like to go out thinking you look ok, go around all day thinking you still look ok then get home and realise you've been walking around all day with your hair looking a fright with wrinkled clothes and stuff!

Thank you so much, I’m really pleased you like the blouse. I have to admit I’m rather taken with it myself!! And I’m glad it’s not just me who feels like that when I get home and see myself in the mirror. My eye make up is the worst. It’s amazing how much difference a millimetre down from where it started out makes! 😆 Thank you for watching and your support too! 🌼

The blouse is so beautiful! I love this pattern and even though it has a lot of pretty details, it doesn't look to hard to sew. I know what you mean about clothes looking perfect in glamour pics, but real life is not that perfect. Clothes should be shown in real life with all their creases and wrinckles... And again how stunning is your area, everywhere you it's so picturesque! 🥰🥰🥰

Thank you very much Arietta 💕 I’m guessing you’re super busy with your new home 💐 Yes, I always like to see what clothes look like doing real stuff, not just twirling! Another reason why I’m looking forward to your 50s overalls! I’m back to London at the end of this week so hoping to fit in one more picturesque filming before I’m back in the crowds! Whenever you are ready let’s do the petticoats (though no rush of course) 🌼💖

Yes, I thought daffodils for Easter! 🐣 I’m so pleased you like the reveal footage. I know it went on for rather a long time! I love watching all the other vintage sewing KZbinrs and always want to see more of the finished makes. The reveals tend to be over before I’m ready. I think it’s because, after a minute or two posing, it’s easy not to know what to do with yourself! Anyway, I hoped I wouldn’t be the only person who wanted to see more of the finished thing having spent at least 10 mins watching it being made! 😁 Thank you so much for watching another episode! 🌼

What a beautiful blouse Samantha and in the perfect fabric. I especially love the front panel detail and this is making me want to sew that style. I'm off to have a look for vintage silk - though I'll probably need swearing when sewing it!! And so nice to see your everyday 40s ladies - great addition. Xxx

Thank you so much Linda 💕 I honestly love this pattern. Even though I should be sewing different things for my channel I really want to just sew two more of this blouse now! I’m thinking Liberty tana lawn for my next ones. The everyday 40s ladies had rumpled clothes and slightly frizzy hair - just like me! It proved to me I can get vintage style right after all! 😂 xxx

Ah yes, the essential missing pattern piece curse! That is a very good way to put it. Such a tricky little collar, such an easy little pattern piece to be lost (especially from a disintegrating envelope!) Thank goodness vintage pattern illustrations always include a line drawing of the back! And thank you very much, I’m so pleased you like the outfit! 🌼

I have made all sorts of (slightly dismaying!) discoveries about my appearance since I started filming 😆 I’m so pleased that you see the resemblance between my sleeves and daffodil flowers. It’s subtle but it’s there!! 🌼 The thing that really appealed to me about the pattern was the scalloped collar so how typical that that was the piece that was missing 🙄 However, I am now in love with the construction of the blouse (the pullover the head, false button design does make things easier!!) Thank you very much for all your encouragement Katie 🌼🌼💐

Thank you very much Lenore 🌼 I got the fabric at a recent vintage fabric fair that I went to with my mum. Donna Flower is lovely (and so are her fabrics!). She lives quite near me. Daffodils are such happy flowers aren’t they?! I passed on your compliment about the videoing to my mum today. She laughed but she does love a compliment. The irony (which she knows) is that she has spent her life known as the worst photographer ever (missing heads, landslide angles, thumb partially obscuring the picture - she could manage all that in just one photo). So it is an irony that she now has an (admittedly unpaid) job as a videographer in her 80s and is doing rather well at it. It shows you never know!! 💗🌼xx

Hi Samantha! That fabric is gorgeous and the top turned out beautifully! I've never been very good with the top stitching method of construction. Things always turn out misaligned and completely skewed for me. Such a nice touch with the glass brooch! ❤ Very clever daffodil sleeves! Such beautiful scenery! 😍 I'd share photos of my local scenery with you but Joshua trees, tumbleweeds and dirt arent very picturesque. 😝 Thank you for sharing!

Hi Laura! Oh you do paint a picture 😄 Mind you I haven’t always lived here. I grew up in the middle of London - I still visit my dad there but it is so overcrowded now. Well I’d like to say I’ve worn my daffodil blouse lots but, incredibly, the torrential rain continues every day. I don’t really mind rain but it does mean a home afflicted by muddy paws as well as dog hair! I have a patchwork skirt coming up this week, which I’ve been working on for …. Oooh, somewhere btw 2-5 years (who’s counting?!) After that I shall accept the rain may never stop and tackle a house dress 😆 Thank you for watching another episode! ❤️

It's a lovely blouse pattern 🌼🌼🌼 and well done on drafting a collar piece! The hemline on your skirt looks perfect with it 💛 Really enjoyed this video, your humour (as always, you're a natural presenter!) rummaging through your antique haberdashery, the dogs playing tug o' War, selecting brooches and the clips of rain, then sun, then more rain 😂 So good 👌 I called in to the tearoom at Selworthy not long ago, picturesque from the outside but Ooof 😖 awful on the inside! How anyone can want to spend hours in a place where everything is … BLAND I don’t know. And the chap had a personality to match! Oh dear. I’m doing some filming in Dunster tomorrow. I did Wells (lovely) the other week with my mum and her friend behind my proper Sony camera. I had to laugh when going through the footage. Getting hold of a proper camera must have affected them. I would like to ditto magicalaurie. It took me about 2 hours pausing and starting to watch your video. You have wonderful facial expressions, everytime I came back to your paused video there was one waiting for me. At what stage did you discover the missing collar part of the pattern? Samantha I liked your heeled shoes of course they are not meant for standing in fields (I loved the thatched rooves) but they really suit you. (Only my opinion) You and your blouse looked wonderful. 😍

Thank you very much Ian! I only realised I didn’t have a collar when the time came to sew it on. I’m sure I should have spotted that it was missing before. I was too busy congratulating myself about how all the pattern pieces fitted on the fabric to notice I didn’t actually have all the pattern pieces. My brother once said I reminded him of Rowan Atkinson. I was initially rather flattered, thinking he meant my wit and comic timing. He didn’t. He meant my facial expressions. Perhaps not so flattering! The field was one of those that look grassy and smooth. Yet, when trodden on, one started to sink … Thank you very much for watching another episode! 🌼
