I love that you're constantly stepping out and trying new things with your sewing. I'm still a beginner with a long way to go before I feel comfortable making a dress like this, but it is inspiring to see experienced sewers who still manage to find so many ways to learn new skills and challenge themselves. Even if you've been sewing for years there's something new you can try that keeps things exciting! Thanks so much !

Wow! Janelle, you did such a lovely job with your dress. The troubleshooting with the side panel worked out so nicely! Also, I absolutely LOVE how you styled your dress! Water soluble coloured carbon tracing paper and a tracing wheel would also make marking the pintucks easier. Such a nifti trick to sew basting stitches instead of tying off each row. I also prefer the tie at the back instead of a button loop as a tie is easier to undo yourself. Dress turned out stunning. 🌸🐨🌸

Loved the dress since I first saw it online! I’m not a dress person at all and my sisters prefer more non-loose fitting dresses, but I when I first discovered it I knew you’d make a beautiful version of it. The dress kind of looks like you, especially in that colour, or dare I say *your* colour? :) And I have to admit that it’s refreshing to see you making tiny mistakes like the one with the side part of the dress. It always turns out good for me too, but seeing you having the same brain as I have when cutting, it’s making my ego a little happy 😅

If you want to do another project with pintucks, you may wish to invest in a pin tuck foot. With it, there is no need to mark the pin tuck lines or fold the fabric. You draw in the first line, use the foot to pin tuck, then use the grove in the pin tuck foot as a guide for all the remaining pin tucks. I use mine in heirloom sewing projects.
@RoseryApparelАй бұрын
I had no idea that was even a thing! Thanks for the tip, I’ll definitely have to see if I can get my hands on one of those!!

@@RoseryApparelI know Temu is such a controversial site but in my case, I use it as needs must. I have had to buy numerous different sewing feet as I'm currently doing a sewing class at my local sewing store. The class requires us to use different feet while we are learning different techniques and ( as an example ) to buy a single pintuck foot at the sewing store my classes are held at was going to cost me over $80. And it is the only sewing supplies store in our region. I went on Temu and bought the exact same foot for $2.99. And Temu literally has hundreds of different sewing feet! You can buy an entire set of feet (48 or 72 pieces ) for around $50! Just check that they have the right attachments for your particular sewing machine as they can vary. But honestly, they are the same quality and identical to the expensive ones you would buy at a regular sewing supplies store. When I first started my sewing class I bought a walking foot from the store here and it cost me $100. Then someone told me about Temu. Out of curiosity I went on to Temu and bought a walking foot for $12 and it was identical in every way to the one I paid $100 for. A friend of mine used to work in a sewing store in NZ and she said that most of their supplies came from the exact same factories that Temu gets their supplies from! Sorry about the long rant. I just thought you might like to know. Xx

That dress is so very cute. I love the tiny pintucks. I like making the pintuck textile and then cutting the pattern from it. My dress did not have the tiny fine pintucks but I did feel it was a great challenge. Unfortunately while the end result was good, it was too big and not my style. I’m debating whether to donate or repurpose the fabric into a quilt (leaning that way but I think someone would love the dress). I’m trying to do pintucks in future garments by simply making the textile and cutting out appropriate pattern pieces even if not in the designers plan.

Your dress is very nice, you did a fabulous job, Janelle! I made a couple pie tucked pieces when I was a teenager, many years ago. I remember it was difficult to sew each one perfectly the same as all the others, but I did like the outcome. The only thing I didn’t like was how stiff it made the top of the garment.

You could have used another pattern for the top half sides, that had normal sleeves, rather than add the additional panel. Or just add a smaller gusset. I French seam everything - and I own a serger too! Garment turns out so much nicer! I have an old Vogue pattern for a pin tuck top, I suppose I could fashion a dress from it too?! Yours turned out smashingly!

I have only pintucked one project. I was 13 and in year 9 sewing class in high school. We had to make a stuffed animal and a piece of clothing for our term projects. Teacher was expecting 2 different projects. I made a chocolate brown teddy bear and put her in a wedding dress, matching bloomers and veil. I also made the bouquet. The mini wedding dress was pintucked. Teacher marked this as 2 separate makes, even though I told her it was 1. Almost 40 years later and I've still not done any more pintucking.
@LindaSeversАй бұрын
How did you mark your pintucks to make it easy to get them done evenly? Love your stay-stitching idea!
@robynrobinson4348Ай бұрын
love the dress, very you. I am an older person and am always astonished at the way younger people cut out patterns. I always use as little fabric as possible so as to have extra wiggle room. Things happen, pieces get lost, you cut wrong, mistakes get made. We all make mistakes.
@cynthiafisher9907Ай бұрын
I’m not sure I understand your meaning. How can you have extra wiggle room with using as little fabric as possible?
@robynrobinson4348Ай бұрын
@@cynthiafisher9907 if you cut out your pattern but use as little fabric as possible there is generally fabric left over for perhaps cutting some wide bias to use to hem a dress that has turned out not quite as long as you would like or re cut a pattern piece you have cut out wrong or sometimes whole extra garment.
@cynthiafisher9907Ай бұрын
@@robynrobinson4348 Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, I agree, I hate wasting anything and I keep small scraps of fabric for other uses. I am older too. We have probably lived through harder times than younger people and understand living without a lot of things. My mother lived through the Great Depression in the US and she told stories of wearing her shoes until they wore through the bottom and they put cardboard in the inside. They had no money to get new shoes. I never had it that bad, but we were pretty poor, we either had hand-me-downs for clothes or we got them at thrift stores. My mom was divorced and had three kids to support on a minimum wage income, so she didn’t have time for sewing much.
@jaybee4118Ай бұрын
Yes, I’m the same (and, well, middle aged I suppose so not really “young”). I cut everything as conservatively as I can, always with a thought to keeping any scraps as large as possible. So even if I don’t need an emergency piece, I might be able to fit something else into the left overs. Or if I end up giving away my scraps it’ll be as useful as it can be to someone else.

Hi. Please could you consider doing an explanatory video on the French seam technique you had to do with this dress. This is beautiful as allways ❤ this was an amazing video definitely want to give this ago as I really love this pattern and have been thinking of getting it ,but I have seen allot of photos of peoples makes and I feel for me that the arm holes are too small (I allways feel stuck in clothes with small arm holes) and I was wondering if you think that would be a possible change I could make or not? 🥰
@RoseryApparelАй бұрын
If you’re planning on making the sleeveless version, then it will be very easy to make the armholes bigger as the pattern says to trim them anyway and you could easily trim them more than the pattern suggests. It might be a little bit trickier with the sleeved version though as you’ll need to make sure the sleeve pieces still fit properly…
