Sewing a Spring Wedding Guest Dress 🪡 🌸 ｜Project Diary

Back in March my husband and I attended the wedding of two friends and I made my own dress to wear to it! This project involved some tricky techniques including using silk organza as underlining, hacking two different patterns to create a custom dress, and adding boning, so I thought it’d be interesting to film the process and share it with you! I hope you enjoy this project diary, it was satisfying to work on and it turned out really well for the event

What a wonderful dress ❤! The interfacing you‘re using for the bodice is very interesting. Unfortunately my google search didn’t give me any results for Germany. I’ve always been afraid of sewing with viscose because it’s so slippery. But this interfacing seems to make it more manageable.

Thank you! The interfacing I used is a viscose/jersey weight and I bought it from my favorite haberdashery: La Mercerie de Charonne. So beautiful, fabric and pattern pairing was such a good match!! Which layer did you sew the boning in?

Thank you! I created boning channels with the seam allowances of the silk organza layer, then stitched the channels closed at the top and bottom once they were inserted. The silk organza was nice and sturdy and didn’t strain. I hope that helps!
