I'm so happy your mom's life celebration was something she would've enjoyed. And what a beautiful place to remember her.😊

I made myself a double gauze Rhapsody blouse last year and I love it. I wear it year round.

Nancy, I didn’t even think of the Rhapsody. It’s a favourite of mine. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips on your Cashmerette T shirt. I have made several and, despite everyone being so in love with it, I’ve never been happy with the fit. Now I’m going to have another look at it and see if these tips will help. I did classes with Ron Collins over 20 years ago and he was so generous in sharing his knowledge.

You are so welcome! I know the disappointment of not being satisfied with fit. May as well buy RTW. Ron is an absolute gem. So patient - and amazingly generous with his knowledge.

Good morning, Janine. The sun hasn’t risen yet here in Los Angeles, the best part of the day for me. As I’m watching you show your mystery/remnant box fabrics, something struck me. The wool and denim together could make quite a sharp looking casual jacket. I’m sure there are patterns that could combine them effectively and work with your now more casual lifestyle. Perhaps the yoke, cuffs and placket could be one fabric, the rest of the pieces the other fabric. Maybe I’m imagining a western style with a yoke. My Tucson years influenced me. Enjoy!

Ohhhhhh … this is a really good idea. The gears are churning. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️

For the double gauze I would look at Sew House Seven Remy, or Friday Pattern Company Donny. Also Pattern Emporium Balloon shirt.

Thank you for those recommendations, Josie! I’ll look at both of those patterns.

Hi Janine, I believe the viscose where you see the weave is called viscose twill, perfect for pants! For the double gauze I would make a layering piece that will work with those pants, something like the Silva shirt from Tessuti. I just made one in red double gauze and omitted the buttons since I wanted to wear it always open on top of a tank top. It is very versatile. Thanks for sharing! 🥰
@JanineSews7 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for the fabric info! It definitely feels a bit like twill so that is likely it! There isn't much there so perhaps it will wind up as pockets, yokes, cuffs, or a placket. Also appreciate the pattern suggestion. I have never looked at Tessuti patterns but will now.

Wide leg or the ‘Bob’ pants for the gauze will be fun and summery. Sorry to hear about your mother, but lovely that you could celebrate her life.

I made cargo pants in double gauze. Love wearing them Janine.

Very bold move to buy a mystery box of fabric. I bought a mystery box of craft items and now I'm stuck with yards of narrow cording, several bags of tiny buttons and a bag of plastic rings just in case I need to make Roman shades. No Steam a Seam, though. Lesson learned. I wish my Michael's would add a fabric section to our local store but so just a few fat quarters.
@JanineSews7 ай бұрын
Sandra, that would have been really disappointing, and your experience is exactly why I haven't done subscription boxes. I knew I was taking a risk and just hoped it wasn't a bunch of orange and brown. They have expanded the fabric section at my Michael's in the last month or so. They did have a row of fabric and it has now expanded to two rows plus the back wall. Maybe something is in the works for your store?

I loved Hancock Fabrics. Didn’t know that Michael’s acquired them. Like you, I’ll watch my Michael’s sewing section more closely. Thanks for sharing your fabric purchases. Your tee shirts look really nice after Ron’s tip.

Have you checked out Tilly & Buttons "Nell" top or dress for the 2M of burgundy double gauze cotton? Just make sure you apply and interfacing to the fabric before cutting out the pattern piece.
@JanineSews7 ай бұрын
Actually, no. I haven't looked at Tilly & The Buttons for years. I'll take a look now, Katherine. And thanks for the tip on interfacing! Ron mentioned a product that you can iron to fabrics to give them body. Can't remember the name but will find it and take a look.

I would make the block tee by paper theory. It’s a good pattern for mixing fabric patterns or colors.

Thank you for that recommendation, Renee! I’ve never seen that pattern so will take a look. I’ve got lots of bits & pieces around. It would be great to have something that works with colour blocks.

The celebration of life for your mother sounds perfect! Thank you so much for sharing your tip about Steam-a-Seam - I had never heard of that stuff but it’s on my list now. I love Core Fabrics. It’s really convenient for me because I can choose to pick-up my order from them (and my daughter works a 5-min drive away from their studio). Hope you have a fabulous weekend! PS Sorry about the Stanley Cup finals… Does that mean you’ll have to cheer for the Oilers now? 😂
@JanineSews7 ай бұрын
Izzy, I may have you scope out fabrics for me 😁! Always easier to touch/see than order online. You have a lot of great fabric stores in Montreal. My husband (not a native Calgarian or even a long-time resident) is cheering for the Oilers. I would love to see the Cup come back to Canada ... but it is REALLY hard to cheer for them and I do tend to wear Flames tops on game days. I think you will understand that. 🤣

I'm guessing the fabricland you went to was Beacon Heights. They just have a better selection of new arrivals and discount section. The other locations just don't compare.
@JanineSews7 ай бұрын
I just looked it up and yes, it was the Beacon Heights store. You’re right - the other stores just don’t compare. I’m happy to drive another 5 or 7 minutes to shop there. Seems odd for that area to be called Beacon Heights. Every time I hear that name I think of the old Beacon Hotel on 16th Ave! Showing my age 😆

It's La Croix brand Limoncello water. Here's a link: www.lacroixwater.com/flavors/limoncello/ In the States it's pronounced "La Croy". I have flashbacks to stern looks in French class so say La Cwa - which is apparently the wrong way to say it since it's an American brand. LOL.
