So neat! I had no idea that bias cut fabric needs to hang for a day prior to hemming. Thank you for teaching me that 😊

The slip turned out great! I have two pieces of advice from my own experience with such garments. For finishing the lapped seam of the bodice, I would recommend just hand-overcasting the seam allowance or using your serger. That's enough to keep it from fraying and it keeps the seam from getting too bulky. And for cutting shifty fabrics, I always put down a sheet of flannel on my table for extra friction, which encourages the fabric to stay put while I trace the pattern pieces. Hope that was helpful :)

The dress is stunning!! I love that you made the underdress for it. I love that you used a 1930s reproduction pattern for it. You will look beautiful going to the symphony in it or as a wedding guest. The color is so beautiful.

I just found your site. Your dress is stunning! The slip works perfectly! Your Kenmore brought back memories. It looks like it’s in perfect condition. I had the same machine in the 70’s. I sewed many items for my little boys,me and my husband.

The dress is soooo beautiful. I’m so glad you found the perfect slip to make for it. I love the periwinkle color. I found some vintage lace is a fabric haul and when I went to sew with it and lace started tearing apart. I was so sad. It must be made with rubber or something. You know how old elastic just crumbles. 😢 I didn’t throw it out because it was just the tulle looking part between the lace flowers that would tear. I figure maybe I could still use the flowers as appliqués or something. 😅 Wishful thinking I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The dress looks amazing! And the slip is lovely too. It could probably do with a lining/facing piece for the bust part to hide all those raw edges, though the bias binding worked really well too 😊
@LaurenJohnson

Hi Lauren! I love the dress and the slip together. It looks so perfect. I'm in love! I'm also in love with the white top you have on throughout the majority of the video. Is it diy'ed, store-bought, or thrifted? It's beautiful. I'm looking forward to your Fall projects!

It turned out stunning! Do you think I could sew up that slip pattern and I use it as a nightgown? Or would it be too fragile? I think it would look charming with a kimono style robe. Maybe make up the slip in a solid color and do the kimono in a big floral print.

I get that French seams might make the under-bust stitching a little bulky but I so badly want to do French seams with the slippery fabric instead of top stitching
@LaurenJohnson

Yes! I was so torn with how to handle that-- might try again and see how it goes with a French seam. Thanks for watching!

Wondering why you didn’t go with a lace hem? Did you have many fitting to get the straps the right length?
@LaurenJohnson
@LaurenJohnson Жыл бұрын
Since I was already a little stressed about sewing this fabric, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, but a matching lace would be so pretty! 🩵 I was happy with the fit without having to make alterations!

Looking good. Wanted to make one but not find good fabric in decent price in my stores. Would it make it to bulky to line the top area to get the raw edges away?
@LaurenJohnson
@LaurenJohnson Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I think as long as you have a fluid and light fabric, it wouldn't be too bulky!
