You can also make a matching bandeau out of the leftover fabric for more coverage! Hope this video helps some of you out! The possibilities are endless and I can spend hours thinking of new ways to tie this dress :)
@ElizabethJones-pv3sj5 жыл бұрын
I was just about to suggest this for those of us who can't get away without a bra. You can also make the bandeau longer so it comes down to the waist (maybe it should be called a strapless camisole?) into the seam attaching the straps and around the back of the skirt so it can't get lost (given that if you lose it there's about 3 ways you can drape it without showing your bra).

@@ElizabethJones-pv3sj I did a dress like that for my sister-in-law's wedding a few years back. For my personal comfort I sew the tube top to the skirt at the back, but not at the front so I could breastfeed my baby without undressing myself too much.

Based only on my infinity dress wearing experience, since the spandex/jersey tends to cling on your body, if the fabric is too thin a lot of unflattering parts will show up. A simple solution is to have a tulle overlay over the infinity dress or make sure that it’s made from good quality jersey/spandex. Hope this helps.

$30 and 30 minutes of sewing? 🙀Y’all, this is a game changer. I wish I was still a wedding coordinator so I could tell all my budget brides about this tutorial! These dresses always go for at least $90 retail
@jlbeeen3 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. Sadly in Canada, fabric like that is more like $20/y (after converting to USD and yards from CAD/metric), but I guess it all depends on how close you are to a fashion district. Like Vancouver or Toronto in Canada, and LA and New York in the US since those places often sell for less than retail. But what's nice about making something is there are more options. Like having two fabrics, custom sizes, and the ability to add any details you may want like lace, embroidery, or even gluing on sequins.
@panda51223 жыл бұрын
I was a bridesmaid in a wedding 10 years ago and we wore these dresses. Yes it was $80 or $90, but it was made by someone with years of sewing and tailoring experience. There was no way I could DIY this. So the $90 included that.

Yesss! I've been looking for a legit infinity dress tutorial! If 4 yards fit you perfectly, how much would a plus size person need (dress size 2X or US 18)?
@coolirpa5 жыл бұрын
Your best bet would be to buy some cheap fabric to make a sample for yourself. I actually made a quick sample before making this one which is how I knew to buy 4 yards :)
@ElizabethJones-pv3sj5 жыл бұрын
Your height is going to be a bigger factor in how much fabric you need. My rough calculation for a 1/2 circle skirt is at least 2 times the waist to hem measurement plus 1/3 of your waist circumference (for the corner you're cutting out at the waist) the straps would be a bit more than 1/2 of your side seam to centre front measurement and I'd guess probably about 3-4 times your waist to shoulder measurement. You can draw a 1/4 or 1/8 scale diagram of your pattern pieces on grid paper to work out how you would fit them on the fabric width you want to buy. Most stretch knits are 60" wide but some are narrower and this way of cutting the straps on the opposite selvedge edge from the skirt might not work if you need a longer skirt, wider straps or have narrower fabric in which case you would need to cut them from the end and probably put in a seam halfway along to get the length. I definitely agree to make a mockup in fabric you're not as concerned about, if it was me I'd use a more casual cotton jersey that I can wear for everyday then try the prettier one for a special occasion.

April you look lovely as always! I especially like the fluid movement of the skirt. I remember how 10 or more years ago Victoria's Secret website used to sell infinity dresses for like 80 or 90 dollars. if not more. insane price for a simplest cut and a bit of stretchy fabric that doesn't even require hemming and any other finishing. other online stores had similar dresses too, as mentioned in the video they were selling them as bridesmaids dresses. their emphasis was that every bridesmaid could style the straps her own way, depending on how much skin she was willing to show. and still as a group they will look somewhat uniformed.
