A good video and helpful ,but we need to know what type and size needle you used. Especially when the lace and fabric are different tyoes. What you demonstrated was done exceptionally well. Voice, speed, and visual were perfect, we just needed a little more info. Thank you fir sharing.

JoJo, you really answered your own question. Due to different types, thicknesses, shear and such of both lace and cloth fabrics, you have to adjust your machine setup to your particular needs. Colleen couldn't possibly foretell your project requirements and give an exact answer. I like this video! Well done and informative. If a seamstress hasn't figured out which needle type and size to use by now, they really shouldn't be operating something that'll sew fingers together! Just saying!

Hey Colleen: Have you tried adding lace with a serger? I just added a hand crocheted edging to a piece of fabric using the flatlock seam (with the knife disengaged). It sewed up beautifully.
@colleenglea8 жыл бұрын
Yes I must agree it is a nice finish when done on a serger.

I am a beginner and want To add lace around the edges of a short sleeve shirt but the shirt is stretchy material will the zigzag stitch work for allowing stretch? is there anything in particular I should do?
@colleenglea6 жыл бұрын
Yes! Use the zigzag stitch, you may want to use knit interfacing if it is stretching out of shape. Thanks for commenting Miss R.

Would i be able to use this technique on a neckline? I have finished the garment but need to add the lace trim and im not sure how to get it to lay flat! Thank you

You will struggle, but if the trim is small in width you get away with it!

@colleenglea11 жыл бұрын
You'll either need to use a French seam when joining your lace together of zig-zag the fabric after you've cut out whatever motif there is. Thanks for your comment.
@colleenglea12 жыл бұрын
I think (I'm not 100% sure as I can't see the lace) but that extra bit is for gathering the lace. If you can somehow send a photo, I'll be a little more certain and be able to advise you better.

Thank you so much for commenting. Hello Jane, (new subscriber) and welcome to FSB fashion sewing community.
@colleenglea11 жыл бұрын
You could but it would all depend on your lace. The zig-zag stitch is better as it holds the edge of the lace flat where a straight stitch wouldn't.

Hi .. just wondering if you could help me to figure out how to add my lace trim to a blouse that has a rounded front and back and goes up at the sides ? are there any video you know of .. thanks !

Hello Nancy, manipulating the lace with small darts or an applique technique will give the best result to a rounded shape.

Hi Colleen, how would you apply fur trim to a garment or hat.?

Hello Jacquelyn G, This method would be possible, but working with fur can be tricky and messy do, some test runs. I will do a video on this technique but my video request list is very long, it will be sometime before I can upload it to the channel.
