The fabric advancing thing is called the feed dog. It’s under the needle plate. Lol The machined area is called the hook! Practical and easy to follow video.

About 9020T continued... This machine has the electrical connection on one side and the motor below in a separate compartment. Do I disconnect only the outlet on the machine before trying to remove the 2 hook gears?
@sengsational7 ай бұрын
In general, I like to first take photos before disconnecting things. As I recall, the long shaft could not be removed until some electrical things were removed. Although the timing is good now, when the gears are replaced, the timing will probably be disrupted. You might be able to mark the shafts before disassembly, but I have no experience with that. Since the timing is good now, I would take a close look at the way it works now, and take pictures, so you will recognize good timing after you replace the worn gears.

Excellent video as it allows the watched to learn by trial & error (the best way). Could have gone straight to a pro repair video but really enjoyed yours as it allowed me to think things through with you (if that makes sense). Gears have arrived, so I'm going to crack on with this repair this weekend. Cheers👍🏾 from the UK.

I just got back from visiting your beautiful country (was in Cornwall and Southampton). I hope your repair went well. Before this video, I knew nothing about how sewing machines work, but I like to try to observe and figure things out. It's pretty easy to do videos where I'm just fumbling along with the viewers, LOL! Can't be a know-it-all, but instead a bumbler that finds the solution.

@@sengsational Hope you had a great stay! I'm sure you did as Cornwall is a beautiful part of the UK and the natives are friendly. I'm currently reading your message whilst visiting the Lake district, which is lovely part of the UK worth visiting if the opportunity ever presents itself. Fixed my old Singer 501 in line with your video and now, after a bit of fiddling around with precise bobbin loop pickup position, it works a treat. Thanks again and God bless brother. 👍🏾

My machine seems to be newer than the ones usually fixed. It's a 9020T Singer. Only problem is worn hook gears. Timing is good.

Is this hard to do for a novice? I have no mechanical inclinations at all. However, the repair shop wants to charge me 175$ so I want to try this my self.
@sengsational4 жыл бұрын
This repair takes patience and you might get "stuck" in what to do next. It's like a puzzle. You might realize "that's in the way" and not know what to do next. Or "that needs to turn, but it doesn't turn", and need to figure out how to get it to turn. If you have the right sized Alan wrenches (6 sided things), you should be able to get it apart, if you are persistent. I wouldn't be in any kind of hurry...instead enjoy solving the puzzle. Getting the "timing" right is the hardest part (where the needle is with respect to the bobbin). It's critical to get it right, but, again, tighten, rotate it slowly by hand, notice the position of things, loosen, move, tighten again, and keep trying. If you get the gears on and you just need to synchronize, maybe the shop would charge less to set the synchronization.

I have the same sewing machine that need these gears replaced. Do I need to buy some grease for this? I bought the gears already.
@sengsational4 жыл бұрын
If you can, I'd buy grease, just so you'd protect your gears. But it really takes very little grease to be effective, so kind of a shame to buy it for 1/32nd of a teaspoon worth. If there were globs of old grease, that might suffice for a while.

@@sengsational what tool are you using to loosen the screws on the inside. I have an Allen wrench and I am getting no where.
@sengsational4 жыл бұрын
@@brenixon1577 If the hex (Allen) wrench was the right size, then you should be able to break it loose (counter clockwise). They might be pretty tight. You might need to use a glove if it hurts your fingers when you try to loosen it.

Dear Sir! Thank You so much! Owing to Your tutorial I have managed to fix my 40-year-old Łucznik 875 (Polish sewing machine built based on Singer parts). It works better than ever before. I think the teeth of the gear must have started crumbling years ago... And it seems synchronized perfectly :-)

I don't know too much about it, but I know there's a button that you can press that makes it go backwards. Could it be that button is stuck?

The gear is frozen with old grease that has hardened. Get the stuff called Blaster, spray and keep working the part back and forth, back and forth. It will slowly start to move, keep spraying and moving. It will eventually free up and move forward.
