I cannot believe that I actually made this pattern, the short version with short puffy sleeves. It was even purple. Around about 1974 or thereabouts. Watching this has just flooded my head with such happy memories. I remember all the dresses I made for myself, such lovely fabrics I was lucky enough to have because mum used to come with and wd frequently buy them for me. Apart from lovely florals one that sticks out in my mind was a lovely soft wool in a heather/ Wysteria colour. It had short puff sleeves, lined with purple and it had an opening in the back with silver buttons... it was short and I wore it with knee high, shiny black boots. I wd say it was 1966 when I started nursing. Thankyou for the memories. Your dress was gorgeous.

That’s becuz back then we had required penmanship classes, just like home economics where we were taught to sew & cook. Alas ..... now they don’t think social skill classes where you learn to take care of yourself are important, becuz they want to take care of you instead.

I can remember being in sewing class when I was a teen sewing some of these fashions. I always loved patterns. You bring back that young lady in me who sewed from daylight to dawn. I just love vintage patterns- and because not as many people sew today, you can really find them for cheap at charity shops, as you know! Also, in Toronto, the Textile Museum of Canada has a sale once a month in their storage space, and they always put out vintage patterns at $1 a piece. I’ve found some amazing vintage Vogues. Lovely job!

This really takes me back to the 70's when I too was making my own cloths. The bane of my life was neatening the seams. Oh how much easier it would have been to have had an overlocker then!!! Interesting how much things have changed in home dressmaking. I used to send a great deal of time marking patterns using tailor tacks (threads) How much easier is it now to have erasable pens? Love the results you have achieved. Keep them coming.👍🏻👍🏻
@BrightAsAButton4 жыл бұрын
@Carol Curtis I couldn't agree more! I had a treadle machine so no zig zag to neaten. Since retiring, I've gotten back into sewing and love all the nifty little gadgets and my overlocker!

Judy, I have been thinking the same except I am wider now and find the vintage patterns don’t fit me anymore. I used to pull them out of the envelope and sew them up, great fit.
