Thank you for sharing all of your sewing goodies! I love vintage things! Tootie is just precious!!! I love the story about your Mom’s sewing machine!!! What a sweet husband you have! I wish I lived closer to you!!!! The moldings on your door and your balcony are beautiful! I have my Grandmother’s Old Singer Sewing Machine in the wooden cabinet with the treadle for your feet! I played with that when was a little girl, and I recently turned 69!!! Yikes! My Nanny- Grandmother passed away when I was 12 and she was 80. So that machine is very old. It has the gold lettering on the machine. I also have my Mom’s Black Singer Featherweight that she sewed my clothes and formals on growing up. My mom learned to sew on that old treadle machine and she was born in 1920. You are a very creative lady and I love your videos! Hugs to you and Tootie!

I love hearing your stories also. I also have a treadle machine I started a quilt on it but I don't sew on it much. We're pretty close in age, I'm 67. I wish you lived closer also.

Thank you for the tour! I love the old moldings, old doorknobs, etc. I’m a vintage kind of girl! I love all your old sewing machines. I am lucky to have my mother-in-law’s 1954 Singer in the original cabinet. I sewed all my girls’ clothes on it. I also received my grandmother’s machine she bought in the ‘60’s. I use my featherweight as my travel machine, and leave my Bernina at home. It has all metal parts. I love your fabric closet. Mine is not as organized. Thanks again! Happy stitching!❤

That was simply incredible. What a treat and what a job for you to tape it. I am gobsmacked. I must say if you run out of things to video tape I don't think any of us would mind seeing your sewing machines in the basement but you wouldn't want to bring them all up or spend much effort on getting them out it would just be too much just overall look at them would be fantastic

I love your sewing room! I sew on old machines too! I have a wizard from Japan that I call Merlin I sew most of my quilt pieces together with. I also have a singer like the first one you showed I think mine is a 401 it was used in schools I was able to get it with all the parts and feet and she sews like a dream😊her name is Ginger 😊I love to quilt and do needle point but over the last few years I haven’t had the time to finish much but I’m planning on doing more sewing now. I have just recently stumbled upon the floss tubes and love seeing all the video’s from you all. I hope to meet some new sewing buddies I can’t wait to go to my first retreat! I have a KZbin channel but have never put my sewing on my channel I never thought about it. This is going to be sew much fun😃😃

Love seeing all your vintage machines! We bought a pretty little shed with a porch this past summer to hold all of mine. I have a suggestion for your Signature sewing machine. Some of these oldies have a double socket (sometimes called a motor block) in which to plug two different cords that come from the machine. One socket is for the light and the other for the motor. They are often unmarked as to which is which. If your motor cord is plugged into the light socket, it operates as a total "stop and go" with no speed variation. So...if that Signature machine has a double socket on the right of the pillar (I think I can see it in your video but not sure), the first easy thing to try is to switch those cords around. Not sure this will work for yours but it's worth a try. (Forgive me if you knew that already. 🙂 I've seen a lot of machines that are thought to be broken because the two cords are just plugged into the wrong sockets.)
@thenightlystitcher

Thanks for the information. I didn't know some were not marked. I'm not sure if this one has the double socket but I'll take a look in the morning. I really appreciate you watching and letting me know.

Love your sewing room! I have a singer 404, 503a, I love seeing all your vintage machines! Please more! I was 4 yrs old and my aunt made me a doll the when you flipped it one side was little red riding hood and the other the wolf. Well she had put a sewing pin to close the dress, I swallowed it and told my mom and dad and I had to spend a week in the hospital in a crib with a lid so I wouldn't bounce around..I was so scared and at the time parents were not allowed to spend the night..I would cry. Eventually the needle passed and I didn't need surgery. Another time about a year later, I was pretending to sew on a singer treadle our land lady owned and I sewed through my finger! It didn't hurt and my aunt said well if she wants to learn to sew, I better teach her the right way! I was curious child..lol. lucky you to have so many feather weights! I totally agree with you about sewing on vintage machines, I have expensive plastic machines but I prefer the vintage too! My sister gave me my mom's vintage Kenmore machine in a cabinet..I love! I also have her newer white machine. Thanks for your tour. Show us how you store your machines! Your fabric closet is awesome. I have one of my dad's tool box with my own tools too. Great minds think alike!

I love that you fix up and use old machines. I got an old Elna made in Switzerland at an auction for $25 and I thought even if it costs me to fix up it would be worth it. But I cleaned and oiled it and threaded it right (the bobbin was wound wrong and it was threaded wrong...no wonder the person didn't like it) and it works like a charm. My best machine actually and I don't think it was used much. I'm with you on not liking the electronic, plastic machines as much. I also love my old Pfaff which was made in Germany.

Oh my goodness! What a wonderful room full of stitching goodies! Love love love your fabric closet! It is so organized. Question - do you mark how many yards are on each comic board? Also, when you buy fabric, do you get a certain amount each time, ie, alway buy 2 or 3 yards at a time? Just wondering. I have a similar setup using foam board that I bought & wrap the material around. I had so many different lengths of fabric that I ended up marking each one with the yardage. I couldn’t figure out any other way to do it! I also have the same setup for fat quarters! Thank you for the tour. It was not messy in my book; well organized and a very workable place. Happy Thanksgiving!

I have 3 ventage sewing machines 1 I'm using to learn machine sewing after hand sewing all my life. The 1 I'm using is a Singer the other 2 are a 80's Brother and the other is a 60's Dressmaker. I was told by a few seamstresses that there were good brands and pretty good year models and I had them serviced. When I tried them out to see which 1 I wanted and which 1 I wanted to give to my mom and daughters, I found that parts were missing from the Dressmaker and it still seemed to need some servicing (or it could have been operator error on an unfamiliar machine!) and the Brother seemed to need a lot of servicing. I have no idea how to care for or obtain parts or diagnose what is needed. I don't want to offer broken machines to my family though they could be very good machines. I dont know what to do with them or for them. Do you have any suggestions?
@thenightlystitcher
@thenightlystitcher Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching my video. I find alot of videos on KZbin for fixing problems. Just do a search like " needle not picking up bobbin thread, or top thread keeps breaking, or bobbin gets birds nest underneath. You'll find all kinds of videos. As for parts, you can Google vintage sewing machines parts if you know what you need. Check Facebook for vintage sewing machines groups also. There's alot of groups to join and ask questions. I'm sure they are fixable. Those machines just don't wear out. Just may need a new part or adjustment. Good luck. And have a Happy New Year.
