The Clover one is the best. There are others that are not so good and/or frustrating. Personally, I thread a bunch of needles at one time and just push them down the thread to use the first one.

I've had the small issue. I wonder if a group was flawed. But I did figure out I could use my Tucker Trimmer the same way with better accuracy.
@sandrabryant24509 ай бұрын
I also had a problem with a very slight decrease. I put the line just a hair below the sew line (if I can see the thread line, I’m good). I also had to add medical tape to the back to prevent slippage. I’ve not had to do that to any other ruler. Just this one🧐

The items I have and use are the following: Dritz Quik Turner, Desk Needle Threader, Slotted Trimmer, Simple Folded Corners and the Log Cabin Trim tool. Keep the directions for all these products to refer back to when needed. The Quik Turner seems complicated until you read the directions, but I love the 3 different sizes. Desk Needle Threader works great, but, you put the thread into the slot and then the needle. I gently hold the thread to make sure it gets caught into the needle. Size of needle eye is important. There is a desk needle Threader that has 2 different slots for different size needles, but I can't remember the name of the company that puts it out. I just occasionally see it and when I do, I will buy one. The springs will eventually break and the thread is no longer usable. Slotted Trimmer is my favorite tool when making two or more half square triangles at once from for example when using charm packs etc. I like oversized blocks and then trim them down. With this tool, you trim, then press open the triangle square. There are slots that trim the dog ears also. It really makes accurate triangle squares. I have the Log Cabin Trim Tool, but, I have not used it yet. It's on my bucket list of quilts to make. I use photo copy fabric for all my labels. It's easy to add clip art that applies to the quilt and make really great labels. I have not used the photo fabric on a roll, though. Ink jet printers are a must and heat setting the labels once the ink has dried is a must. The photo fabric sheets I use are really hard to sew with a hand needle...ask me how I know this. So I put on a 1 1/2 " border around the label and then turn and fold part enough of the border to cover the seam line on the back mitering the corners. That give me a folded fabric edge to sew to the back of the quilt that is so much easier. I usually make the border from the backing fabric that I trim after quilting. It blend in with the backing letting the label shine. I have also learned that it is easier to sew the lower edge of the label to the quilt when adding my binding. Then I only have to tack down 3 sides. Also attach those 3 sides before the final stitching of the binding. Doug Leko's Simple Folded Corners is a really great tool. There are tutorials on line to show you how to use the ruler. I actually took a class from Doug and it was our primary tool to use that day. It's great for saving fabric and if you don't like to trim, then this is the tool for you. It also eliminates the dog ears ahead of time, so you don't have to trim those. You may have a little bit to trim if you sewing is off or you are a Type A person, but, it's a great tool. This was long, but it has been my experience with these items.

Testing quilting products is a great idea for a KZbin series. I heartily recommend the Creative Grids Log Cabin rulers which produce accurate blocks. You will not be able to use it for quilt as you go because you trim the edges of the block after adding each round of logs. The Simple Folded Corners ruler can conserve fabric when cutting triangles but not when cutting the foundation squares. I recommend it for accuracy.

I use the Add a Quarter or Add an Eighth any time I paper piece. I took a class from Carol Doak on Craftsy several years ago in preparation to make a Storm At Sea quilt. She showed how to tape the top of the ruler (I used a piece of Gorilla tape almost as wide as the ruler) to the top right edge of the card stock piece that comes with it, aligning the ridge on the ruler with the edge of the card. That way you lift the ruler wit one hand, fold your paper back over the cardboard, flip the ruler back down tucking the ridge against the card and cut your seam allowance. It works great. I also use her paper (it's like the old newsprint reams of paper we had in school). The eighth ruler is great for her little card patterns or small blocks. I made my quilt and many other projects with it.. These have held up great- I've never had to redo the taping or card. I also have the tube turners, still in the packaging, so I'll look forward to see how they work. I plan to make the apron after Christmas. Diane

I love my desk needle threader when threading milliners or straw needles. When I do needle turn applique, I tend to bend my needle and then the threader doesn't work well.

I have that issue as well...after a while I don't need to replace my needle because it's dull...it's because it's bent. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve been using printable fabric for years, it’s expensive, but I’ve never had luck with the fusing fabric to freezer paper trick. I also have the slotted trimmers for HSTs, they are brilliant, I use them every time I’m making HSTs or QSTs. I can thread a needle myself, with my 58yo eyes, a lot easier than trying to use one of those desktop threaders, they’ve never worked for me!

I have about half of these products. Found the needle threader more cumbersome than just using an inexpensive wire one. The Log Cabin Ruler is a game changer. The blocks come out so perfect and even though it is an extra step, I find a much easier process for log cabin blocks. They are my favorite too! Looking forward to future videos on these products.

I use the Bonnie Hunter brand folded corner ruler. It works great! No more drawing lines from corner to corner. The ruler lines up to cut the corner off leaving the 1/4” seam allowance. Just sew the fabrics together with your 1/4” foot and you are done. I found it helps to move my needle a couple thread widths outwards to the corner to allow for the pressing.

Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer. If you press seams open this product works great. But if you press seams to the dark side it doesn't take into account the turn of cloth. Not too bad on large HSTs but for small HSTs (< 3") it can be enough to make things a little off.

The slotted works great for half square triangles.😊 The needle threader doesn’t work for threading all needles. I was disappointed 😢 I absolutely love the log cabin tool for normal piecing❤ The accuracy is beyond comprehension. I don’t think it would work for a quilt as you go unless you stitch in the ditch on the completed square. I haven’t tried the other products.

I use the needle threader the tube turner often. Also used something similar to the heat and bond vinyl it works but can get messy, I’ve got photo fabric but not used it, I also have an add a1/4 ruler which is a very useful product never seen an add an1/8th,. It seems I love a gadget lol, but the ones I’ve bought like yours do work for me, can’t wait to see your reaction to them . Thanks for the video enjoyed it.

If the Clover needle threader is the one that says "For sewing and quilting needles." on the front (mine is green and art #4072) it will work GREAT! One of my quilting friends has one and was using it at a group sew day. Before the day was out an order for 6 was placed. I used it at a quilting demonstration in my local library and, personally, know of 3 more orders plus many photos of the packaging were taken. The ]people ranged from never held a needle before to 60 years of practice and people were volunteering to thread needles. Works very well and is easy and fun to use.
