Love. Love. Love your studio. I like getting inspiration from sewing studios from garment sewers instead of quilters. You speak to me in every way. I, too, have fabric recycle containers and a couple of containers for thread ends that can be made into a DIY.

On that cutting mat try Joann fabrics around Christmas, usually if they have the fold down cutting tables on sale they have the big mats on sale also. They are rolled up and in a box to save space and are in the same area as the cutting tables. They are probably available on Joann's website too.

Omg. That was so much fun!!! I have a flatware rack out of an old dishwasher that I keep scissors, seam rippers, pliers, seam gauges, also have a pair or two of nippers. This sits to my right. Very handy. I have a better Homes and Garden table for my work space. I just cut a hole in it and have a cord holder for my misc cords. Much nicer than being like Medusa’s hair and all a tangle. Small fridge under the table with a fabric and cardboard “garbage” clipped on to the front. Soooo handy. Lastly, I put a large hook in my ceiling, actually 2. The one closest to my work space has a swivel from a tool bag with a belt holder from Dollar tree. I hang dresses from this so I can press the hems, or hang the dress and use my lap for handwork. I had to use the swivel because in turning the dresses I kept unscrewing the hook. 😂. Large hook in the center of my ceiling is for wedding gowns and big ole prom and pageant dresses. You were my break tonight from working on a wedding gown. Til next time!

I can't find the black grid on white cutting mat any more but last year I got a 36" x 59" red ink on white LDPE cutting mat from Joann's on sale for $42 or so. It was the cheapest of any place I could find (and boy did I really look). I love the giant clear vinyl table covers that Atelier Saison uses though, and might change to that one day. I think those can be found from the McMaster Carr catalogue for machine shops.

I thought it was just me but I have so much trouble getting the stitching to lock when I finish hemming. I do not know what I do wrong. I do not use the quick jerk method as suggested. There is a UTUBE video where the man suggests pulling the thread out from the looper and cut with scissors. It keeps from bending the needles if you do that often. I usually do have better luck doing that method. When I yank on the thread a bit I usually can tell if it is going to lock or not as it has some resistance. Try that instead and make sure the thread is between the fingers of the looper. I have the same Consew blind stitch machine but I do all types of clothing alterations and do need to use it often to save time and make hemming slacks look professional.

What I didn't see in your shop is the Fiskars shears with the spring-open handles. If I'm cutting a lot those save my hands from a lot of fatigue. Thanks for the tour, very informative! I am a person who sews as needed. I just painstakingly created my son’s fiancé’s wedding gown. I am about to do the hem. I have purchased 2” horse hair for it. It is a heavy satin and it is not lined. I have watched your video on horsehair hemming but you didn’t talk about 2”. Can I install the 2” the same way you did the 1”? Thank you so much for all your amazing videos!! What a blessing you are!

If you go wider than 1", I recommend lining it or sewing both edges down. Usually people only do the two rows of stitching when the fabric is semi-sheer and with invisible thread.

So fun to see someone else’s sewing studio. Do you have a video of your main room where you see the brides? Also, what pins do you use to pin those heavier lacy dresses. Lots of them bend easy, even the long ones. But I have 2 pins in my collection that look like all others, 2 in long but the steel is so strong and doesn’t bend on you (not sure where on how I got them lol) Wondering if you know what they are and where to get the. What do you use for that

@BridalSewing5 жыл бұрын
So funny. I just had someone else ask this the other day. I do sometimes use a thimble. It's often not worth the trouble to deal with one more thing while recording. But mostly, it's because my joints are hyper extensive. That means my finger joints flip backwards just as easily as they curl inwards, so it can take a lot of muscle strength to push perfectly straight so as not to wear my finger out with all of the back and forth.

@BridalSewing6 жыл бұрын
Hey Keena! I have a video on that! Check my channel and go through the vids. It has audio issues, but is still my highest ranking video. To answer your question, I almost always do grommet style, because they have proven to be superior in my experience. I don't buy pre-made corset backs with loops. If I need to do one by request, (bc bride thinks it is prettier) then, I just make one. The tote that says "pre-made", that's for an inner corset needed on the fly. I don't buy those, though.
