I'm working on my own mockup of the Redthreaded stays and your video is immensely helpful. This is my first attempt into corsetry and there were just a few small things I didn't quite grasp in the pattern instructions. I figured it was probably something simple and, alas, it was! I'm just a very visual person so having your video show me what the step was saying was all I needed. I'm so excited! Thanks so much!

This is so useful. I got confused with the pattern instructions but you have, made it clear.

thank you for this video! i'm trying to make this pattern, and though i'm not a beginner at sewing, this is my first effort at corsetry. A few steps in the pattern have simply blown my mind, but you made this so clear and make so much sense. and i loved seeing where the steps diverged for the making of a mockup instead of a final product. thanks again!

Thank you for watching! I'm very glad you found the video useful. Yes, corsetry is a whole different beastie to other types of sewing. Good luck with your first corset!

I just found your video on the 1780s red threaded front lacing stays. I’ve been sewing for years and have sewn three corsets, But step number five on these stays is where my confusion started. I think step five says to sew the center front seam (CF?). That made no sense since they are front opening stays. Your video helped me so much. Why do they call the center front of the stays center front when they actually want you to sew the front panel to the side panel???? I know I missed something but your video was wonderful! Thank you so much. I was getting ready to scrap their instructions and do it the way I have done the other stays (Augusta stays).

Thank you - I'm very glad you found my video helpful! Step 5 in the instructions has a couple of things being done in it. The first part is: for each side, sew the front panel to the side panel at the side-front (SF) seam. Then it moves to joining the outer (strength) and inner (lining) layers together: When it says to sew the CF seam, you're not sewing the two sides to one another, you're sewing the outer layer to the inner layer. Does that make it a little clearer? I do also have a few other videos (besides this mock up one) that construct this pattern, and hopefully they could also be of use. At the end of the day - it's just a pattern, and you're free to construct the garment however you wish! I often make a few little changes and adjust to how I construct things, compared with the instructions. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Best wishes with your stays!

Hi Catherine, I am in Aus too. How was the SewCurvy postage price (and delivery time now too!) . Really need a supplier!
@CrystalPegasusCostumes4 жыл бұрын
I've always found Sew Curvy's postage price very reasonable and the service is excellent! If you add items to your Basket, then go to Basket, it will list the postage. (You're not committed to buy at that stage.) As for delivery time in the current world, I'm afraid I can't comment as I last stoked up on supplies last year, and am still going strong with them.

Did you adjust the pattern at all?

I just cut a smaller size (two smaller - one to bring it in, and one to allow a lacing gap in the back). Ideally, I would have made another mock up, but I didn't have time and so decided just to go for it, as I was happy with the shape overall. Allowing for the gap in the back brought the front peaks into a position I was happy with (some people do have to move them forward), and the only thing I altered was cutting down the arm scythes a bit (shown in part 3) ☺
