I'd love to see your broad shoulder adjustment. I have the Dawson top but haven't made it yet because I really struggle with shoulder fit especially in fitted t-shirt patterns... I've played with broad shoulder adjustments but not always successfully...

Hi Tamlyn, I believe that I also have broader shoulders than most pattern companies design for. My fix is a bit hit and miss so it would be interesting to see how to do the adjustment that you were shown if you could do a bit of a tutorial. Thanks

👏🏻fitting adjustments make all the difference. You are so right too, once you figure it out you can adjust your patterns before you start. I know I need to do the exact opposite of you and do a narrow shoulder adjustment. I also need to do a forward shoulder adjustment (the result of being a dental hygienist for 35 years) and this one I haven’t gotten down perfect yet. Always something to work on.

So glad you mentioned the Dawn Top, I’ve always made TATB Agnes and never had a fitting problem but the one and only Dawson I made was really ill fitting in the shoulders. I’m going to try adjusting the width and giving it another go 😊.

Tamlyn, congratulations on 15 K. I like the top and the pants that you’re wearing great job on that and they go together kind of you know black-and-white and white. They’re both comfortable. My favorite color is white so and I like comfortable anything comfortable

Oh yes, I have sewn the incorrect parts together when sewing a raglan. I also sewed the sides of a front skirt panel together instead of the two centre fronts. I didn’t realise until I was about to hem the finished dress.

I have a serious reader Gemini, I’ve had them around 2years, I felt one of the lights was dimming significantly on Ruans advice I contacted Serious Reader and spoke to Jordan and he has arranged for the light to be returned to check, I have say customer service is second to none, Jordan was so helpful.

I think we have all sewn raglans wrong. The retreat sounds so nice! It took me a while to realize I need a narrow shoulder adjustment on nearly everything. Congratulations on your new milestone.

Oh, how disappointing for me. I was signed up for the Wed Thready, Set, Go session, but had a conflict come up at the last minute. I'm sure those who were there loved getting to know you better. I've done one of the sessions so far. Because I, too, am in the US, Wednesdays work better for me with the time difference. Maybe we will 'meet' on a different day. Your makes are wonderful and I really like the SOI Holly sweater. The photos on the pattern don't do it justice, so it's great to see it on you. Sewing retreats are so much more than going to a new place to do a bit of sewing, isn't it? My creativity, my soul, my ideas all get an infusion from the wonderful people with whom I share the experience. Happy that you seem to have gotten everything you needed from the weekend as well. I'm coming to the UK at the end of March for a sewing retreat done by Debbie Shore, and being held at Coombe Abbey. Thanks for the update, encouragement and fun today!

The retreat looks and sounds lovely, but a bit out of my price range. I have been investigating the socials at IzzoSew as they are in Sheffield which isn't too far from where I live. Might pluck up the courage one day. It's just the thought of packing up machines and bags of stuff that puts me off. Raglan sleeves are very confusing and easy to mix up the pieces. Congrats on 15k - I can but dream!

I have done the same thing with Raglan tops. I have to mark front and back on sleeves and body pieces. It's crazy. I wish all patterns would put the notches on the patterns. Not all of them do and that is what caused me trouble. Love your makes.

I have broad shoulders as well, can look like a linebacker (US football player) and I would measure each pattern as you go, I find especially the Big 4 have plenty of shoulder for my measurements. Have even trimmed a few back. FWIW.

Lovely makes, Tamlyn. I almost made the same mistake with raglan sleeves on the top I just finished, but realized the notches didn’t match. Then went on and topstitched a pocket closed. 😂 Congratulations on reaching 15k subscribers! Happy sewing.
