Sewing with Velvet. Velvet fashion fabric is a great media to work with and helps to give sewing projects a luxurious, stylish and professional look. It comes in a variety of styles, from hammered and embossed, to the more expensive silk varieties.
Velvet itself is a type of woven ‘tufted‘ fabric in which the cut threads are evenly distributed, with a short dense pile, giving it a distinctive feel.
The ‘pile‘ on its surface is raised making the fabric feel furry.

Thank you SO MUCH! I've been struggling with velvet for a couple days now and kept giving up in frustration. After a few hours of research, I stumbled upon your video and TIL that I was adding more tension, rather than less. (It made sense in my mind that less tension = a smaller number) Well, you learn something new everyday! yesterday I went crazy because velvet and my sewing machine...it just walked away over and over again, as new beginner...I have no clue how to fix it, so I gave up. Thanks for your video...anyway I has one question, can I use any paper between velvet..I'm not sure in my country has sell something same as in your video.

These tips are good. I want to know how to differentiate fake velvet from real one? and should I trace the exact pattern of my dress for velvet as I do for other stuff cause its stretchy.

Thanks! I was brave enough to use the iron - which worked well. Didn't "catch" or impede me in any way. Yes, you have to be careful, but holding a gently steaming iron six inches from the fabric or going hunting for a 'needle board' did not sound fun.

So I'm starting a mini clothing line collection, to sell in my online store........ I wanted to make a cloak/ cape but NOT for costume, I want to be able to where in cold weather, Because it snows where I live. I know there is light weight velvet and heavy weight velvet but IDK the proper name for the heavy weight velvet, and no fabric store close by where I live so I have to order everything online. I was told that upholstery (the stuff they use to decorate homes) was heavier, but idk I've never worked with velvet before. Can someone PLEASE HELP?! Thank you.
