Finishing Curved Edges of Sheer Fabric. Do you want to fashion sew with sheer fabric, but maybe feel a little trepidation or unsure of how to handle such a delicate media? Have you seen garments made up with beautifully finished hems and puzzled at how they are sewn? Let me show you how to sew and finish curved hemlines on sheer fabric!
The sewing of curves need not be a tricky process.
One of the most effective methods to use on sheer fabric is to ‘zig-zag‘.
Using a zig-zag stitch is not only ideal for a beautifully neat finish, but can add a decorative feature that can be a real focul point on a garment.

The secret is to put a piece of tape over the hole on the needle plate. This will stop any bunching.

The fabric I used for this demo is organza. It should also work on crepes and chiffon as long as they are a little firmer. Just do a test piece first.

It really would all depend on the type of lace and pattern you're working with. In an ideal world, you'd buy lace that already has a scalloped edge.

I have of organdy fabric, organza I don't know what it's called but it's nice with sparkle. I make a full circle dress for my granddaughter with interlock under it, how can I add silver trim like using a bias tape or maybe a mettalic thread? I already used it on the sparkle waist elastic but just need to hem it...Thank you!

Can you do this to the bottom edge of a tulle skirt? I'm trying to figure out how to keep the two layers of tulle from sticking to each other and bunching up.

Hello. I have a bodice made of tulle that works as a basis for a leather net. I want to keep my design as it is. Is it necessary for me to finish with a specific way the neckline and the armholes that are not covered by leather ? Or I can keep them as they are?
@colleenglea
@colleenglea 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Άνδρια Ανδρέου, You can keep them as they are, but if they are not holding there shape, sew a small zig zag stitch on the seam line and trim back the access.

Sew happy you enjoy my tutorials Katy. I think it is possible If you starch the fabric first so that it is stiff, this will make the process a lot easier to do, and thanks for taking the time to comment.

What would you do to finish illusion fabric at neck ?
@colleenglea
@colleenglea 2 жыл бұрын
You can still use this method Demetra, I think it could be possible to use fabric glue along the raw edge. It is a method I personally have not tried ( do some test samples).

will this avoid the curve to stretch? I am sewing a lace dress and I dont know how to finish the neck, so I am thinking to use this, but I want the neck to hold and not stretch later. keep the shape.
