This is such a versatile block but any one can make all the variations too. I've made versions where the cut widths are been different to the one shown and you can sash each section before trimming the sashed block back down to 10" . You can also sash around each block too. It looks good however you make it and using different lines of fabric also gives a different finished look. It is fast becoming my favourite block to use for my charity quilts

I like to cut f q's into 2x 10" squares, a strip of 5", or 4 squares, and if there is enough, a 2 1/2" strip. All broken down, to manageable sizes to use as is or cut down later. You can't put it back together without a seam allowance, but can decide and cut down more later.

Hello, this video inspired me to buy a layer cake and have a go! I am learning SO much, and enjoying most of it. However, I have a question which is probably very dim but I am a real newbie. I chain pieced strips together as you showed, snipping them apart, but now I am joining my squares together, seams are coming undone. What have I done wrong? Should I be doing something to finish each seam?
@SewingStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hello Hilary - Glad we can help you on your journey to becoming a quilter. Make sure you sew to the end of your square and do a couple of stitches before your next one, and that's what you snip. That way you always have a bit of thread between the two pieces of fabric.
