I've been using these for many years to gather skirts to attach to bodice of dresses,etc. *Use corresponding model for your machine: short shank,long shank, slant needle,etc. *Generic ones are less reliable than ones made for or coming with your machine. ( Non-bernina attachment unscrewed the needle on Bernina!) *Mark the adjustment screw with a dot so when you've gotten the correct amount of ruffles you can note: 12 o'clock (dot position)/ 12(stitch length) * It's better to have your ruffled piece too small because individual tucks can be released so pieces fit together WITHOUT starting over! It's DEFINITELY worth the effort to learn and practice using this VERY helpful attachment!

I put ruffles on dresses. The skirt is a certain diameter and the pattern said to cut ruffle a certain length. How do I know what setting will make it fit?

I've grown too old and shaky and blind to use mine. I made some red gingham ruffle butt panties for a sundress once with four rows of red ruffles. The mommy's reaction to them still makes me smile. They WERE tooo cute at that!

I had forgotten that I had this, and you have inspired me to add a ruffle to the sleeve of a top I’m making. I think it will elevate this garment. Thank you.
@monaanz67543 жыл бұрын
Dale, did the ruffler work for top of sleeves? I haven't been totally satisfied when this was attempted because the little pleats went forward on one sleeve and backwards on the other.
@dale34043 жыл бұрын
@@monaanz6754 I haven’t had time to,play with it, sorry to say. What you experienced is strange. What kind machine do you have?
@monaanz67543 жыл бұрын
@@dale3404 I'm currently using a Singer 99k and the ruffler that came with it although I've used several different machines with there corresponding rufflers. Since it had been a number of years since I tried to use the ruffler on a sleeve, I made some practice sleeves to see just how it would work. Because of the way that you guide the sleeve into the ruffler it's as I remembered one sleeves little tux will be going forward and the other sleeve tucks will be going backwards. I typically use the every sixth stitch ruffle however when I use the every stitch ruffle setting it didn't seem as obvious that the little tux went different directions on the sleeves. So give it a try and see what you think.

I have a gathering foot for my Janome. It looks a lot different from that. Maybe the difference is gathering or ruffling. Mine looks a lot less intimidating, but yours seemed easier to use. I need to get my foot back out and play with it a bit. Thank you for such informative videos.

Thanks for this explanation. Still have to figure out how to determine how much fabric will be required when I go to gather/ruffle a piece of fabric up. Now that I've watched this, I'm more confident to pull out the ruffling foot and practice, practice, practice!
@dale34043 жыл бұрын
Practice with different weights and different stitch lengths. Then put all of your samples in a binder with notes attached. The next time you use the ruffler, you can refer to this and not have to repeat the process.

I would have expected you to tell us approx amt of fabric or how to gauge ruffles to area of fabric being attached, Laura. Nobody else I've watched so far has. I have a specific piece of fabric that I would like to ruffle and attach to another, specifically, I want to put a ruffle on a curtin. I can do it the long way round but I have a ruffler one like yours and the ruffle foot that comes w machines and would like to use them. Seems that the only way to get one piece to fit another piece is through trial and error, sew and rip, and hope it comes out. Although the ruffle feet are easy to use, it is going to take a very long time to actually get it together using them, unless you are making ruffles on large amts of fabrics and just keep applying them until you get to the end, like rolls of trims.

How do you determine the number of ruffles if say you want to add a ruffle the edges of a curtain panel, for instance, and you want.the ruffle to match the width of the panel? I've always done a basting stitch and hand gathered the ruffle to the appropriate width and it works but boy is it time consuming!

Hi, everyone ! Where I can buy an original ruffle foot like exacty you showed on this video? I really need a better one.. Bought before in amazon , ebay and other website, it came looks the same but the quality of metal especially the bottom metal where you attach the fabric being raffle was not working as should.. Please advise. Thanks in advance !

A store that sells sewing machines or a sewing machine repair shop are the best places. Getting the correct foot is always the best.
