Thank you for the tutorial, My wife has just lost her hair due to chemo for breast cancer, she loves sewing and this has helped her take control of the hair loss and a project to keep her mind occupied. She played with the dimensions slightly to get a best fit and used slightly wider ties to make a feature of the bow and padded out the “gather” with bundle of muslin.

We would really appreciate them. I used to have a head of beautiful long thick silky hair. Not anymore thanks to ibrance. But hey, it is keeping me alive. (Well GOD is but let’s keep going for now.) Not only hair loss from Chemo but hair loss, thinning, or change due to a number of factors: chemo, CDK inhibitors, loss of estrogen in CA pts from treatment, aromatase inhibitors, alopecia (immune system attacks hair follicles and kills them), trauma, anxiety (hair pulling), etc...can you tell i was a RN before MBCA (metastatic [this means stage 4, the last stage] breast cancer)? Don’t forget the kiddos! Can this pattern be downsized for the kids?

Currently undergoing chemo, with hair loss. I still wear a mask as I am immune compromised and recently found mask elastic irritates my ears. Found a pattern for a head band with buttons but need a hat to hide hair loss. It’s getting too warm for knitted hats and am so glad I found this so easy way of meeting my needs. Thank you.

I live in Dublin, Ireland, I'm 77 and the 70's and over cohort has been restricted from going outside of our apartment/house for many weeks. I always wear my hair short but now it's difficult to know what to call it - "forked lightening" springs to mind :-) I have lots of fabric so I think I'll give this a whirl. I have been so taken with the simplicity of you cap or hat, I just wanted to share that I have gone through my fabric stash and cut about 100 hats to make for our local cancer care centre in Newmarket, Ontario. The pattern was was so very easy, it actually made sense to put 2 units together and make one hat. Kudos to you for sharing your video with hands on instructions for sewers and wanna bees.

This is such a splendid way to cover the head. I have alopecia and can see how I could wear this and still feel covered well and look stylish at the same time. My daughter just got her first job in a restaurant and the owners told her she needed to bring her own "chef's cap" to keep her hair up and out of the way (they only provide hair nets.) So happy to find this video with a familiar face (I also made drawstring pouches from another one of your videos!) This was so much easier to follow than the PDF patterns I downloaded, and fun to sew! My daughter wore it to work and now every one of her female co-workers wants one, so I am making a half dozen more to coordinate with the restaurant's colors/logo!

Nicarey 71 You can use blue painters tape or this is what I’ve been using for years-“Sewing Edge - Reusable Vinyl Stops for Your Machine: 5 Strips Quilt with Marci Baker”. It’s on Amazon for about $10.00. I only use 1 strip a year so it’s worth it! & it really helps my seams to be the perfect 1/4” 🙂 🧵

Really love this pattern! Very forgiving for a newbie. My hat turned out super cute. Might need to make mine a little bigger. I have a lot of hair. Edit: I increased to front edge to 19 inches and the length to 30 inches. Much better length for my long thick hair.

Laura, I have been making different scrub cap patterns over the past 9 months trying to find the best one for long hair and I have to say that yours is the absolute best I have found! You are so thorough and have the best step by step instructions without adding a ton of dialogue that is not needed. You have a very soothing voice that is so easy to listen to, makes me feel calm and confident that I can do it. I am making them for my daughter who is an OR nurse and she loves them. Only thing is they have to wear a disposable cap over their cloth scrub caps so it can get pretty warm some days and she asked if they was a way to adapt the pattern to only 1 layer of fabric. I have no idea if that would work and really would appreciate any guidance or advice you can share. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and making this a free pattern we can all use.

@@deirdreboertien1282 there is another way of doing it that I think you will enjoy. Cut a three inch piece the same shape as that bottom curve. One Edge will be sewn on and then you will turn it to the right side. The other Edge you just need to tuck in making a small seam allowance and top stitch that down. That little area you'll be able to put elastic in. I hope this makes sense and I hope it helps

So I have been wearing my puffy prairie bonnets with matching masks and having a good time doing my grocery shopping!

I made a scrub cap and used binding tape instead of making the straps . I have been wearing this cap all the time! It is so comfortable, versatile, and cheerful. Thank you for the tutorial

Cut up pantyhose makes a good elastic as well. just make the stripes wider, when you stretch them they get smaller and then nothing will fray. they are quite elastic - not as much as the bought ribbons, but quite good. and the waist bands are very elastic.

I just made 4 of these for a friend that has lost her hair due to her chemo treatments. She loved them because of the elastic in the ties. I am not a great sewer at all, but I made 2 very quickly and they both look great. For a kid's size, I tried 18 inches (long side) x 15 inches short side with the ties being 18 inches. The cap part actually fits me because I have a small head and thin-ish hair, so I might try this size for myself but with the same 22 inches ties... for those of you who find the standard size too bulky. Also, you are amazing, Laura. I am like others. I could listen to your voice all day even if I wasn't sewing. I think people gravitate to the kindness that comes through, which is some feat across the internet! I am very inspired to start sewing again. I used to, but then I was with someone who wouldn't let me leave any of my things anywhere (literally, I couldn't even put my purse down by the door) and sewing takes up space and projects sometimes take days, so it feels really, really good to be doing this again and finding success in a simple project. Thank you.

Jessica Crompton Hi! Making the cap reversible makes construction easier, and most people who have fat quarters have many such pieces of fabric in coordinated colors, meaning, they are quilters! If two fabric layers are too hot for you, just use a 4” by 22“ fabric for the head band portion,and use a bias tape around the rounded portion to hold the elastic. Easy!
