Great tutorial! One thought...when cutting up the 10in square, cut the unmarked lines first in case they get moved. Might help newer quilters.

I believe the 1st 5" cut from the 5x10 piece was miscut at 4 1/2. He should have only had to make 1- 5" cut with 5" left over. I really love a FQ friendly pattern!

You're right Teancum. The Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer Ruler is great! I've been using it for a while. It makes getting exactly sized half square triangles so easy. Being able to trim off the tips immediately after squaring saves time. No going back to trim those later :) 👍 on the pattern. Thanks for sharing. 💖

Sorry about the question but I am math challenged - I am thinking I could use a layer cake for this...would it be 2 layer cakes? I love these techniques....thank you for sharing. Cheers from Canada
@barbarabaker346
@barbarabaker346 4 жыл бұрын
It looks like you need 112 10” squares , I think you would need 3 layer cakes and you will have some left over. You will get the 4-5” squares from 1 10” square. That is how I came up with the 112 10” squares needed.

@@barbarabaker346 thank you ... I was thrown off by so many triangles and couldn’t get it straight. I guess fat quarters would be way more economical than the layer cakes. 🙂 appreciate the help 🙂

If you cut the vertical and horizontal lines on the 10” squares first, it’s easier as the other 2 cuts are between sewn pieces. More accurate, less fussing.

Great tutorial. However, your pattern does not say what size you trim the half square triangles to. Is it 4.5??? Many thanks.

Am I confused? Why not just get your identical half square triangles from 4 10” squares instead of 2 10” squares and 4 5” squares?

You can’t get 4 pieces 10 x 10 out of a fat quarter. (Only 18” long)
@eirika2001
@eirika2001 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that too til I realized it was the shape of the fat quarter. If you are near a quilting store you could buy 10” or 20” yardage pieces instead🙂

You should ALWAYS iron your fabric first!! Especially fat quarters which are folded multiple times as this can affect the accuracy of your cuts! No offense but dang that white fabric is cheap, when you can see everything underneath it because it is so thin, it is a cheap fabric.
