Brother, I write to you today as an undergraduate in Religion (from a Western secular university) as well as a lifelong spiritual seeker. Five years ago, I had a dream that has culminated in my inviting Shiva Lingam into my home in January of 2023. I cannot even begin to fully express what a beautiful symbol Shiva Lingam is for me as a humble seeker, but in the larger context of all great spiritual and religious symbols. For me, it is the most balanced, the most succinct while also the most expansive and all encompassing symbols I have ever seen. I think the only other symbol that comes close to the perfectness of Shiva Lingam is the Circumpunct (also Axis Mundi), which I believe is another manifestation or version of this same symbol. I applaud you academically for speaking the truth, regardless of how it may be received. I also thank you, for giving all of us this outstanding documentary. Shiv lingam is the endless and beginning less axis of the entire creation. It is called the "agni-lingam" and also as "axis mundi" in some other cultures. Lingam means "symbol". The symbol of shiva is like a agni-dandam, also therefore known as a jyotirlingam (agni ~ jyoti), and because it can't be made endless, it is made finite for practical purposes. Therefore, when in this story of shiva purana, it is said that shiva was holding his lingam, it means he was holding his burning dandam-like symbol in his hand. This is why the rishis cursed him to make the burning lingam fall to earth, because they were angry at his weird digambara form and also worried that the burning dandam may cause harm to someone. However, when the lingam fell to the earth, it started expanding infinitely in both the radial and also the axial directions, burning everything around, because it was the agni-lingam itself. Hence the rishis recognized him as none other than Lord Shiva himself. Now, the confusion remains that what is yoni here. So the word yoni also means place of origin, and also something that "unites" or "combines". The word “union” comes from the Latin word "ūniō" or “unus,” which refers to “the action of joining or uniting more than one thing together," according to the Oxford English Dictionary. These words unio and unus are linked or originated from the sanskrit "yoni". Therefore, when Maa Parvati takes form of a yoni and baan, it simply means she takes the form of a literal arrow known as "Shakti-baan" which is an amogh shastra of the devi and yoni(i.e., something which unites the two and locks them in place). The yoni stops the lingam from expanding in the radial direction, while the baan stops it in the axial direction, thus stabilizing the shiva lingam. Here this thing should be kept in mind that if yoni would had been a literal female organ and lingam a male organ, then there was no need of an arrow to unite the two. Here, the deeper esoteric and philosophical meaning of the story still remains unchanged. Shiva is the endless stream of consciousness or purusha and devi parvati represents prakriti, which gives meaning and stabilization to this eternal consciousness, thus establishing the importance of both.

Sanathana as a spiritual beginning is honestly explained. But we have to keep in mind that the realization started in a crude form as in the beginning of human evolution. As the first lot of children started growing the adults got embarrassed worried and started refining their interpretations. The evolution of Shiva and Manusmriti cannot be trashed outright. They have to be kept for reference and the effort of the educated,learned, wise intellectuals should strive to evolve , civilize the whole human beings and their beliefs to better esthetic level. Sanathana is being explained and interpreted to suit one's own advantage. This ,your effort is a good start. But caution be in toe. Let the beliefs conform to the process of evolution.

I was sitting in Isha dhyanalinga and I meditated for a while and when I opened my eyes and looked at the lingam, all I witnessed was a male genital organ. Though I felt little odd and discomfort at the moment, I realised that its the representation of source of creation without which nothing would come into existence. It's self realisation.. people who are deeply rooted in their physicality only can talk ill of Shiva lingam. We can ignore them. But, I would add following points, being myself an Engineer, from Shiva Linga;s 2D plan/elevation drawing / and 3D projection/ bisection /cut-section / grafting technique, my observation is as follows, along with annotation At 2.47, add one more word Garbham/Gargha means womb, Yuni is a birth canal, Garbham holds pregnancy and Yuni delivers birth, Also, Yuni as a female genital part that unions with male genital part Lingam At 3.37, on cause and effect, more relevant example: Union (cause) has given its outcome Pregnancy (effect) At 5:28, Vyasa Maharshi is the correct, in giving Bhagwat Geta, which says that Yuni is the Womb, gets impregnated and later delivers birth. But as per today's knowledge, womb (Garbham) and birth canal (Yoni) are bisected words for the female reproductive organ Now for further analysis, considering above mentioned addition inputs, also from engineering drawing perspective, the Shiva Lingam as object is only depicting the female pregnancy, showing the BABY to be born (foetus) in the womb. The foetus (Pindum in Telugu) is shown as round half ball at the center of the Shiva lingam's round base (womb). The Yoni, the birth-canal is shown as projection to the round base (womb). From Engineering sense, Shivalinga as an oblect, it a proper object depicting Pregnancy(pindum) in the Womb In my conclusion. I feel, we are as Hindus can only worship RUPAM nature of divine. In fact, Shivalinga is the RUPAM showing Pregnancy (aspect of Prakuthi nature), but not Shiva who is Nirguna (formless nature or has no RUPUM). Vyasa Maharshi Bhagwat Geta. At 5.28, and his Linga Puranum At 4.48 are both the correct ones for Hindus to worship Shiva Lingum.

The books themselves might be advanced because of content but that doesn't mean the language itself is hard. A college textbook in any language will be difficult. Same way with sanskrit. I recommend reading simple books like ramayana Mahabharata as a beginners.

So the word yoni also means place of origin, and also something that "unites" or "combines". The word “union” comes from the Latin word "ūniō" or “unus,” which refers to “the action of joining or uniting more than one thing together," according to the Oxford English Dictionary. These words unio and unus are linked or originated from the sanskrit "yoni". Therefore, when Maa Parvati takes form of a yoni and baan, it simply means she takes the form of a literal arrow known as "Shakti-baan" which is an amogh shastra of the devi and yoni(i.e., something which unites the two and locks them in place). The yoni stops the lingam from expanding in the radial direction, while the baan stops it in the axial direction, thus stabilizing the shiva lingam. Here this thing should be kept in mind that if yoni would had been a literal female organ and lingam a male organ, then there was no need of an arrow to unite the two. Here, the deeper esoteric and philosophical meaning of the story still remains unchanged. Shiva is the endless stream of consciousness or purusha and devi parvati represents prakriti, which gives meaning and stabilization to this eternal consciousness, thus establishing the importance of both.

@@dannystark7668 shiv lingam is symbol of shiva. What is symbol of shiva? A male genital organ is symbol of any male, and not just shiva. Now to understand the entire concept, know that there is another story in the puranas where shiva appears as this great infinite agni-lingam to test lord Vishnu and lord brahma. This lingam extends from infinity to infinity in upwards and downwards directions. How can we reconcile the two stories about what is a shiva lingam?? The idea is that shiva lingam is the endless burning axis of the entire creation, which represents the infinite stream of consciousness. All swayambhu lingams like the amarnath lingam are therefore called jyotirlingams, and have no yoni and baan parts. However, if one wants to consecrate a shiva lingam for worship, then this story comes into the scene. For practical purposes, this infinite axis is made as a finite cylindrical lingam. The idea is that without the prakriti parts of yoni and the baan, the lingam would just keep on expanding and is therefore unfit to be consecrated for worship in a man-made setting. The confusion comes from translating lingam and yoni as male and female parts, which is a much later mistake done by translators, and ancient texts like the kamasutra does not use these words for genital organs in the original sanskrit texts.

One of the primary teachings of Shiva is to learn to live with differences of opinions within people and to kill ahankaar or ego. He is the fiercest to act against ahankaar and hasn't even let the gods get away with it. When your biology teacher teaches you about reproduction this is the exact same dilemma they go through. It is a knowledge supposed to be passed on to generations but unfortunately we live in a time where almost everyone's mind is covered with filth. To accept the shivaling for the union of male and female to produce a new life you need to look at it from a place of piousness. Shiva is the very first guru in existence. He is responsible for all the knowledge that exists. Some people will feel shy to look at it the way it is and hence only speak of it as a union of masculine and feminine and some will see it for what it is and will take it as something that gives birth to a new life. The name of the video is still wrong and misguiding. Even if the content of the video is taken to be correct, still the shiva lingam has nothing to do with sex. At best, we can say that the representation shows a lingam coming out of a yoni, which is not sex, but instead a combined representation of the masculine and feminine aspect of creation in one symbol. Even the story of shiva purana that he quoted has nothing to do with sex. I don't understand from where he came up with the idea of naming his documentary as something to do with sex. He should change that name as it is misguiding, kind of belittling the deeper male-female/yin-yang meaning of shiva lingam to sex, and just for pulling more viewers and nothing else.

I have a question regarding this - If lingam is male genital organ, then what about the story of Agnilingam which appeared to stop the fight of Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma on who is better than the other? And this curse was given by the Rishis after that, so here Agni lingam was a symbol of nirakar shiv in sakaar roop. I am so incredibly happy to view both part 1 and 2 back to back! A good friend of mine sent the link of Part 1. I was initially a bit hesitant since I thought this too would be a sanctified and twisted version of the Truth of the Siva Lingam. But I was pleasantly surprised that you have not shied away from explaining it for what it truly is. It was interesting to learn about the 'Banam' part of the Siva Lingam, which I had no prior knowledge of. Would it be a representation of the Initiative for Creation? Shiva, in the unmanifest form, is inert. It requires the feminine Shakti and her Initiative energy for Creation to happen symbolized by the Union represented in the Shiva Lingam (Lingam+Yoni+Banam). The four directions in the early Shiva Lingams could also represent the directional unfolding of Space that accompanies the Creation (Big-Bang?). Excellent work. Well researched and simply explained. About time our scriptures are taken from storage and studied and explained as there is a huge, huge gap in the teaching of Hinduism. The wrong kind of people tried to isolate us from our history, now it’s time to overturn the damage they have inflicted and get back on the right path of knowledge for our children and grandchildren. I think I feel this story to be original, the first story was right but by my understanding and learning Shiva didn't hold his organ he just suprised the rishis which were shocked and disgusted by a naked man who tried to disturb their penance and scared their wives hence forth the rishis with rage cursed him that his nakedness and brute appearance by which their spirituality was tainted should become a destruction to his own and Shiva hence become a glowing vicious flame by the time rishis knew it was late hence to control this indestructible power , they then went to mata parwati to control this much of power hence she became a yoni kind of a cup to cntrl this power it's like to control the power of lakhs of nuclear heat she became conductor to it I have no problem with that it is female n male genital organ my only problem was that the story of Bhagwan Shiva holding his organ is not true because i strongly feel that he was cursed for brute appearance and stark nakedness which kind of shocked the rishis for a moment and belittle the purity of their tapa and embarassed their wives kind of a chaotic moment. I have a question regarding this - If lingam is male genital organ, then what about the story of Agnilingam which appeared to stop the fight of Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma on who is better than the other? And this curse was given by the Rishis after that, so here Agni lingam was a symbol of nirakar shiv in sakaar roop. Pls don't mislead the people's and don't show English translation Sanskrit have no relation to English here if u want then show Hindi translation. I advise u to not make remarks with little knowledge. If u want to remarks then firstly go through all Vedic sculptures puranas , uppuranas and also have knowledgeable gurus and then guru and mahadev grace u able to understand the meaning of shivling. and then you have able to guide people's. Bro, the Shiva lingam which you explained in your videos was related to Hatakeshwara aavirbhavam and it is absolutely right but we have other stories as well where the Shiva lingam was created in different ways at different instances for example Shiva lingam created as agni stambam during the superiority fight between Brahma and Vishnu and here only Shiva was there as agni stambam and also what about remaining jyotirlingas? Request you to explain them as well and how it fits into this universal idea of union of prakruthi and purusha in these jyotirlinga contexts.

I must say that I've gained a great deal of respect for this channel after watching Parts 1 and 2 of this series. I celebrate this and all other channels that CITE THEIR SOURCES and base their arguments on ROOT SCRIPTURES. However, if possible, I encourage Project Shivoham to even go beyond printed editions and to look at manuscripts in Bharat's wealth of archives. If you haven't already, I really think you will enjoy it -- it only adds new dimensions to the lila of seeking truth! I know you already put a great deal of work into your videos, so I mean no criticism. There's just something moving about reading the original hand-written manuscripts -- they are wisdom relics that really bring the notion of parampara and transmission to material form.

This is in the form of vedanta (upnisad and darshana). Further these darshan are adopted into story form as Puran and agam shastra as instructions. Now the question arises why?
