Some said it's because he wanted to play heavier music, but Opeth stopped making that sort of music a decade ago. Others have suggested is was around the time of Covid 19 and it was rumoured he didn't want to get vaccinated. I'm not sure if either is true but I always liked him in the band.

@@yudhaadityasukmanto The vaccine thing comes from an interview Nick Holmes did where he [Nick] said that "he [Axe] didn't want to get the vaccine, so that caused issues with travel and touring with OPETH when they started to go out again six months ago." Assuming that is actually the case, we still don't actually know the reason why he wouldn't get it though, he may have had legitimate reasons, at least that's what I tell myself. Also I doubt it has anything to do with Opeth's music style considering he has said that Heritage was his favorite album to play on.
