My old band opened up for Origin years ago, and I remember when talking to John for a bit, and he was telling me about the double stroke bass drum pedal technique that he was learning. This is not the peak of metal drumming and to say so shows your ignorance. John is a phenomenal musician and one of my favorite drummers but there are numerous other drummers who are also just as good as John who continue to push the boundaries out further and further in technical drumming/music which means the peak has not been hit yet. Just a few names of drummers that are in the upper echelons of extreme metal drumming along with John are: -Anthony Barone -Lord Marco -Dave McGraw -Stocki from Cytotoxin -The Icelandic Drumming Destroyer from Ophidian I -Chase Westmoreland

@Coastfog Жыл бұрын
Really, as a progressive metal drummer who has seen tons of crazy sht but rarely anything like this - I'm left speechless, too. I can only speak for myself, a self taught drummer, but I understand the things I play more like a coreography, like a dance around the kit. I usually don't write my parts in advance but they develop from trying stuff with my band mates or drumless demos they recorded. At some point after enough practice, it's just a sequence of things you do, muscle memory kicks in. If you think "Oh yeah, in two bars I need to do that thing", you're not there yet. Sometimes in rehearsal, it's tricky to start in the middle of a part because I don't have the cues from the part before, but other than that, the whole song from front to back is a sequence my body just knows to reproduce. Most of the time at least... And most fckn certainly not on this level.
