You see what they are saying actually works in all forms of business. If you don’t speak up it not only hurts you, but it also hurts the business as a whole. I love how they break everything down to an educational level for everyone to understand. Not that some people are stupid, but people take work of mouth differently. So they say in the easiest way possible for the viewers as a whole to understand equally. I love this channel and I respect it for everything it says. Jiu-jitsu is awesome. Helps a lot of people out of horrible situations and to hear that some instructors and owners actually care about the community more than the money they pay is just awe inspiring. Love you all. Take care god bless and stay safe , happy and healthy and most of all. Have a fantastic day.

I was worried when I was new. But then I realized I don’t think about gender now, only size and skill. Since then I’ve rolled with women of all body types and nationalities and have been able to make friends on and off the mat. By making this effort to include everyone I think it allows women to be comfortable. If they aren’t welcomed they won’t trust the good guys to help if something does happen. Thanks for speaking about this Rener.

This happened in my Karate school, I trained since I was 8 and then a man started when I was 17, and it was awful, I spoke out and nothing was done, I felt alone,so I left. My karate journey was over. I'm happy to say my jiu-jitsu school are amazing and makes everyone welcome and we all help each other. It's like a family. I honestly think sexual predators just try and find jobs/hobbies/places etc where they can have access to people they can prey upon. Its actually disturbing to think about. Every woman should train in BJJ and carry a weapon in my opinion. And also sexual assault against men needs to be talked about.

I understand why women want to roll/sparr with men. They're trying to simulate a real life self-defence scenario. That being said, if a woman said she didn't feel comfortable rolling/sparring with men there would be nill hesitation to accommodate her. So the same should be for men. If a man doesn't feel comfortable rolling/sparring with women, respect his space without getting political or passive-aggressive thank you.

Lets get it straight, sexual assault is a crime and needs to be deal with by the law, not in house. If a student has been assaulted, the solution isn't to change schools, its have the accused deal with by the authority's. And 'feelings' aren't 'truth'. There is 'the' truth, period, not your 'version' of the truth. Remember, this cuts both ways. When allegations of this nature are made, its can destroy or tarnish a persons, or indeed, a organisations reputation forever. The internet never forgets, and bad news goes viral literally at the speed of light. Some people are malicious, because they train BJJ wont change that. Any pervert / bully needs to be weeded out and dealt with in a totally transparent manner.

I see a bunch of comments saying "just don't roll with women" and "I don't roll with women because I don't want my actions to be misconstrued." That's a mistake. You should be able to roll with anyone. My gym is pretty small, with only a handful of women. If men don't roll with them, they often can't roll at all. That's a huge problem for our highest ranked women especially, because most of the other women are white belts and wouldn't give her any kind of challenge. The second point is stupid, and says something bad about you. Everyone knows the difference between accidentally touching a woman's breast when you're putting on a seatbelt and a deliberate grope. If you're respectful the rest of the time, it's very unlikely that anyone will misconstrue that. You apologise the way you would for accidentally elbowing or clashing heads with someone and move on. Women who train know it's a close contact sport and they don't get mad about honest accidents. If you genuinely can't tell the difference as a man, you're not the kind of man who should be around women, period. If something does feel awkward though, here's a radical idea: talk to the women in your gym about it! Most will be glad you care and will happily show you where the line is. Listen to them and act accordingly. It's really not that difficult to respect women, guys.

This isn’t just bjj. This is martial arts wide, I used to train at a Taekwondo academy that heavily abused authority, one of the high up instructors that was in charge of the entire academy had been raping students over the course of 35 years. None of the students or the lower instructors knew about it but apparently one of the victims went to the higher up instructors and told them and the higher up instructors covered it up. When this instructor was charged, the other instructors when asked about where he went just said “no comment “ or “he’s behind us” when I asked questions I was told to leave. I went to a different Taekwondo school that told me everything that was going on. I was so embarrassed to have even been in that academy, not to mention that I was a lower ranked instructor in that academy . When I do start up my own academy I will be fixing many flaws that were overlooked to be “traditional “. Don’t let yourself be abused, there are other schools that teach your martial art, go train there There is a difference between you not honouring your school and your school not honouring you

with great power comes great responsibility, unfortunately often people in powerful situations abuse this power! One can not talk about it enough, I am so proud of all the BJJ practitioners who are taking a stand and speaking up for abuse. I would also just like to point out that everyone joins BJJ for different reasons, each journey is unique. Often girls/women who have been sexually abused find the wonderful art of Jiu Jitsu afterwards on their journey in life, it is a battle on many fronts and it is the men at the academy who are mindful and willing to roll /spar and not judge that help that individuals to grow, battle her demons and often overcome and empower herself, to take a powerless situation and turn it into a situation of courage, strength and freedom. Jiu Jitsu has been the best therapy and I am grateful for the men who has played a roll in my journey, it is one of mutual respect. Awareness is powerful and speaking up ..... !!!!

I will share my story. I tried Jiu Jitsu because of all the advertising that it has about self defense. When I entered the dojo, I couldn't make it till the third month. It was like you starting boxing and doing sparring on the first day and feeling trash. And I did some boxing but it was too much for me. I really thought that Jiu Jitsu was just about that. Survival. But then I tried a Judo class and it was completely different (I couldn't continue because I had a long ride to that dojo). That judo class was more relatable to any of the martial arts that I have trained, where you spend a lot of time on drills and techniches. I also remember going back to my Jiu Jitsu class and doing a Judo throw. It worked even with high belts. After that, I stopped. I learned enough to protect myself. But I have found that they didn't know about solid takedowns.

I recall once when an instructor did something inappropriate during randori. The woman it happened to confronted him, and he denied it, so she did not bring it up with Sensei - but she told the other female students so that if it happened again, or had already happened, we would bring it up with Sensei, so he was sort of on probation with all the women/girls training at the dojo.

@@IndianaJoe0321 It seemed definitely intentional, not something you would do by mistake in karate "free play", he pinched her n***le ( I censor bc I am not sure if something might react in the algorithms?). Blocks may turn into grapples, that may end up wrestling on the floor, and grabbing each other, wrestling is intimate, or sometimes guys punch girls on their breasts out of habit, bc on males the pecs are pretty insensitive and easy to tense to absorb hits with, while a female ... we have soft, sensitive tissue there, and actually prefer taking them on the shoulder/clavicle ... unless we use a protector, and most did not. The problem I think is the fact that BJJ has grown so much in such a short span of time that schools and instructors who maybe should be vetted more thoroughly aren’t because of the speed the art has grown. So everyone needs to chill out about accidentally touching a woman during a roll because this is clearly not what happened.

Left me with 3 herniated & slipped discs & 2 annular cracks in my spine. But my big brother, who’s a black belt 🥋 in Tae Kwon Doh, swears that this would be good for my back. I’d like to learn this.

It is tricky because I understand the comments "don't roll with women," "just have separate men's, women's and child's classes." However, if you goal is self-defence for life and say one day someone attacks who is a man and you have no experience in defending yourself against men, that is going to be a problem. I suppose humans and these kind of situations are just tricky 🤷

The women come to the gym to train meaningfully against men. The usually want to learn how to defend themselves and figure bjj is the way to go. Based on the female population size at any given gym, if every man said "no" or "I don't feel comfortable" then the women in the gym either can't train meaningfully or at all. Arizona Silverback says for that reason, if you don't roll with women you get kicked out of his gym. They are paying members at your gym, a team member.

If these allegations or any other allegations are proven, anyone assaulting sexually anyone should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, not just frowned upon or spoken against in social media. It is very easy to "speak out" or "raise awareness" against any alleged crime and get a few pats on the back. I don't think anyone out there condones or favors sexual harassment on anyone.

If we separated the men and women not only is that sex based discrimination, but more importantly: there are too few women at any given gym for that to work out. Take note of how many women are in your gym. I've only ever seen 2 at mine, and usually it's one at a time. You might see them train together on one day of the week, but they don't have the same schedule. If we segregated based on sex the women would never get to roll at all. Then they would all quit because Jiu-jitsu is an expensive sport on top of "being useless" because they would never get to roll.

@@USALibertarian In order for women to defend themselves they need to roll with men. If you have a condition or psychological disorder that makes it impossible for you to roll with women, talk to your professor. Otherwise. If everyone else has a training partner already and the female notices you and figures that she can learn greatly from rolling with you, and you say "sorry, I don't feel (comfortable/interested/safe) rolling with you", you can't just waste her valuable time training to defend her life and family over someone's comfortability. That's messed up.
