Many native English speakers don't realize this but this rule exists in English. However it isn't reflected in writing. Only in speaking. Work -> Worked ("workt") Live -> Lived ("livd") As a non-native English speaker, I had to learn this rule to pronounce the ed ending correctly in English. Now I see that this rule is the exact same in Dutch but it's also reflected in writing. Dankjewel voor deze video Kim 😁👍
@GabrielCazorlaPersson18 ай бұрын
You are kind of right. But I have found one exception to that rule... If the word ends with a "t" for example in "want", we pronounce it as -id, but the letter "t" is in ketchup. In the word "weeten" we have "weette" and "weetten" for the past.

All these wonderful rules to explain whether the verb ends with a D or a T, then the punchline after 6 minutes: they are pronounced the same anyway!

Hahaha, no that's only for the pronunciation of the past participles: so you pronounce geleerd as geleert, but you have to write it with a D. And when you put it in the imperfectum (leerde) then of course you pronounce it with a D because it's not the last letter of the word anymore :)

Having summarised and generalised all you said in this lesson I derived the rule for myself how to identify whether it’s the ending “t” or “d” and I wonder wouldn’t it be easier to remember that there is always silent consonant “t” after the stem ending on other silent consonants (p/k/s/..) and voiced “d” after the stem ending on other voiced consonants (b/g/z/..)? Or am I not right?

@learndutchwithkim5 жыл бұрын
Oeh ja een sexy fokschaap! :) Wat zijn de nieuwe methoden dan?
@JCTjia5 жыл бұрын

@learndutchwithkim4 жыл бұрын
Ja dat klopt, maar de ik-vorm wordt meestal de stam genoemd, alleen wijken de ik-vorm en de stam dus af bij werkwoorden zoals reis/reiz en leef/leev, omdat de z in een s verandert (en de v in een f) voor de ik-vorm vanwege onze spelling. Het kan dan dus verwarrend worden met de terminologie die door elkaar gebruikt wordt.
