It's a nice setup but I wonder if they offer these pickups on a plate with a reverse slant for the bridge pickup, definitely a big part of his sound.
@runrabbitrun43427 жыл бұрын
Not really a big part of his sound Jimi Didn't even use the Bridge pickup all that much. From late 67 all through out 68 he didn't even use a Fender Stratocaster He was using his Flying V from Gibson. Most people can't even tell the difference well he was doing that so,This is all over rated Its all about sales sales sales.

They do offer a Hendrix Voodoo Style pickguard.
@peterchoe7 жыл бұрын
+Jerry D Definitely not true. He uses the bridge a lot at woodstock as well as in the studio. He did not use the flying V for the whole set, when it even appeared at all, and his main guitar was still a strat. The strat is the guitar that appears in the majority of concert photos circa 1967-1968. And the bridge pickup angle was a big part of his sound. It cut down on the highs and tightened the bass, which in combination with pure nickel strings, 30-40 feet of high capacitance cable and a gain modded fuzz resulted in his live tones.
@amyn2277 жыл бұрын
It's hard if seymour duncan make it reverse bridge slant pickup... because not all stratocaster body made with reverse slant bridge pickup chamber at the strat body, unless u did get the actual fender stratocaster jimi hendrix signature. Seymour make it standard slant so it can fit with any strat from any other brands (fender/squiare, esp/ltd, schecter, suhr & etc..... even any cheap brand strat made)
@amyn2277 жыл бұрын
Even in this video, he use a Fernandes Stratocaster.
@dennymcfastlane85306 жыл бұрын
Surprised know one ever mentions the G string, when they talk about getting a Hendrix sound. Jimi always used a lighter gauge G string, because the G when bought in medium gauge Fender strings, that Hendrix used at the time, were always G dominate. I think Jimi used a B string as the G string, because the lighter gauge wouldn't G dominate. In the late 60's, not too many guitar string manufacturers were doing a variety of gauges.

Very nice review and playing.The pole stagger thing intrigues me. Roger Mayer spent a lot of effort choosing odd string gauges for Jimi to try and balance the string volumes. Would he have preferred flat poles I wonder?Still a good sounding set of pickups though.I thought your decision not to use effects was sound. In response to another comment, I wonder whether using a British amp might have softened the tone a little?Thanks for a great review

Of the strat pick ups I have played....fat 50's, SD California 50's, Fender Custom shop made strat....the hands down favorite is the Hendrix pick ups featured here. So much so, that I went back and replaced all of my strats with these. They are smooth, even, musical....nothing harsh, nothing muddy or biting. These have the best clean and overdriven sounds of anything I have tried.
@jorgepavon8582 Жыл бұрын
Really? I got this loaded pickguard on a trade deal. I haven't installed them yet since I only have telecasters, but your comment motivates me to invest in a strat body and neck.
@nickf9392 Жыл бұрын
@@jorgepavon8582 Same here I'm a Tele guy to the bone, however I do own about six strats. When you set the Hendrix pick up heights I recommend this...on the neck & middle pick up set the height at 1/8" below the bottom of the strings and set the bridge pick up at 1/16 below the bottom of the string. Also roll the guitar volume back slightly to 9 or 9 1/2, this cuts the glassy sound common to strats and delivers the full musical sound of these pick ups. Let me know how you make out.

I don't understand Why SD Runs the black ground wire from pot to pot Its not even needed. Its a waste of wire and makes things look messier......About adjusting the Pickup Height if you really are trying to get close to Hendrix Look at his wood stock Video they show many closeups of the strat You'll see Jimi has the pickups height completely straight across no angel at all.
@Robstafarian7 жыл бұрын
Those black ground wires ARE necessary: they provide the ground connection for the tone capacitors.
@runrabbitrun43427 жыл бұрын
No ,Your wrong They do not,.... everything works as it should without the Ugly wire running from pot to pot. You don't think so,Take a look at any Custom shop stratocaster Or any stratocaster made from oh lets say 1954 to 1970 You will not find the ugly ground wire on a single unit Not one!!! Mark my words. If you do find one on a original vintage strat please post the link. Cause i can post 10,000 links without it. "The wire"..
@Robstafarian7 жыл бұрын
+Jerry D Vintage Strats had metal plates, which were connected to ground, beneath their pickguards. Pickguards without a metal plate, such as the one in this video, require the wires for the reason I stated previously.

Have a Squier Contemporary HSS, and Installed the Jimi Hendrix neck, and middle pickups but when i switch to the middle pickup, and humbucker pickup the volume isn't as loud plus has a trebley sound. Would you know what might be causing this
@Takuro20033 жыл бұрын
As Jimi was using right hand strat left handed, Seymour's pickup is wound reversed to mimic the effect. Thus I think reversing your rear humbucker should solve the problem.
@shreddy4122 жыл бұрын
Very late to this party but your single coils are out of phase with your humbucker. Switch the wires on both neck and middle pickups to solve your issue. (ie. black wires to the switch and hot wires get grounded to the pot)
@KevinDillardguitar6 жыл бұрын
I’m sure this has been brought up somewhere but for the true Jimi thing the bridge pup should be reverse slanted for the string path to be correct
@chipsterb49465 жыл бұрын
Kevin Dillard - very good point. He makes a big deal about the reverse staggered pole pieces, but angling the bridge pickup the opposite way would have a bigger effect on sound. The problem is that the pickup route in most bodies wouldn’t accommodate a bridge pickup angled the other way. Look at this guitar as an example.

As a lefty guitar companies don't offer shit for lefty guitarist... Even tho they're fucking Hendrix pick ups smh.. All Hendrix stuff should be made for lefties and if righty players want them they should have to use them reverse like Jimi had too.
@grog55643 жыл бұрын
@@subzero308 Actually, part of the Jimi Hendrix sound was that his pickups (single coil) were not wound for a lefty. Also from what I have learned, in upgrading an Epiphone SG, is that even the Pots on a left handed guitar are made for a lefty. According to Seymore Duncan's Tech, Humbuckers do not need to be wound for a lefty, but single coil do.
