Baddass tone! !!!!!! Bout time someone did it rte. Great distorted tones dont have to involve super high output pickups, but moreso a balanced/medium to medium high output with hi gain in the amp. Let the amp color your tone. Not the pickups. The Sentient and and Pegasus use Alnico magnets are are not too high output. So you dont muddy up your tone at lower volumes.

+timmkv Thanks for your reply. You definitely seem like you know what your doing. My favorite combination has been the JB in the Bridge and a 59 in the Neck out of a Triple Rectifier. Would you say this set of Pup's are better? How are they EQ'd?

I have set of JB/59 in another guitar, there is some differences for sure. In my opinion, the Pegasus has a lot more snarl to it, more 'throaty' if that makes sense, where the JB is a bit more rounded. I found the sentient to be smoother for me, more dynamic too. But it call comes down to personal feelings and preferences! :)

Great sound and demo, bro! I thing I will install Pegasus or Nazgul's in my LTD EC 1000. Did you tried both maybe? The stock EMG's make a very good job I prefer passive pickups. Passive = MORE balls, natural decay and sustain! These gold PU covers are so damn sexy!

I got one of these used last night and popped it into my EC-1000. Sounds thick but also clear. Perhaps a little dark but I think I need to adjust my settings on my EVH 5150 50 watt a bit. Nazgul is in the mail!

Nice! They can get a little dark, especially it being in a big mahogany body. But some EQ adjustment should get you to where you want to be :) Let me know what you think of the Nazgul!

I've heard that these pickups do better in brighter guitars, but this demo begs to differ. I plan on doing a Strat build and I'm either going to do a mahogany body or swamp ash, with a maple neck with ebony fret board. What body wood would you say would work better with these pickups?

Randall Williams hey Randall, sorry for the late reply! I'd assume that the Swamp Ash would be a bit more suited for the set, but it's clear (to me at least) they'll work for anything. This combo works great for me! It's exactly the tone I was looking for.

jaychen yup. The guitar itself is beautiful and the pickups sound pretty good. The neck pickup isn’t my favorite but it’s not bad by any means either. The coil tap cuts the overall volume a bit too much so I can’t really use it at gigs. But at home I like the sound it produces while spilt and on the neck pickup. Really nice cleans that way. With high gain the bridge pickup is awesome.

Yes, drop C indeed! I typically use heavier strings, so they were 12’s from memory!

I’m trying to swamp my lithium’s in my kiesel. I actually love the sound but they are a tad too weak for my taste. I’m trying to blend styles of Intervals (newest album) and sylosis. Heavy E standard palm mutes with lots of pretty slides and big chords. I have a nazgul in my 7 and alpha/omega in prs. I want something still warm like the lithium’s, but with more power, especially in the low end. Mahogany body

Pegasus/Sentient should do the trick! Or at least be in the list. I always play a bit of Sylosis style riffs on this guitar and I don't feel like I'm missing anything tonally. They're warm, but still have enough bite. And they great in a split coil position for the Intervals type stuff too!

Tim Gauci / timmkv I ordered a pair of suhr ssh+ and sv. I’ve heard them in a few different contexts. They sound a bit more vintage than the Pegasus, which I dig for this style. I have a nazgul/sentient and titan set that I love, but I think even they might be a bit too overkill for what I’m after.

I was too thinking about replacing the EMGs on my ltd ec1000 with these pickups. How did you get covers for those pickups and do the pickups fit right away to the EMG pickup rings? Sounds really great, I was kinda worried if there would be too much low end in a guitar that has a mahogany neck and body.

Hey Ivan! They need to be ordered through their 'Custom Shop'. They don't sell them with covers as far as I'm concerned. Best to hit up your local store or distributor to get hooked up!

I can only speak of the Pegasus as I haven't tried an Alternative 8. But the Pegasus is a sick pickup, nice and throaty, open and clear!

I have a Sentient paired with an Alt8 in my KOA 1993 Carvin DC 127. Absolutely LOVE the set up it's like a bigger sweeter fuller and tighter JB Jazz set up. Super versitile set up!

Either one would be great, but maybe try the Black Winter if your looking for more of a brutal tone. The Pegasus is a nice all rounder for heavy tones, where the Black Winter is a lot more directed to Black Metal, Death Metal etc. Thanks for watching!

I haven't tried a D-activator I don't think, but I do have a Nazgul. The Nazgul is perfect if you want something that's full of attack and aggression, whereas the Pegasus gives you a bit more versatility and 'roundness' in comparison.

They're both pretty great and very versatile, but I'd say check out the Pegasus for the more groggy, modern metal and the Custom 5 for a more less specific metal sound!

Tim Gauci / timmkv thanks for the reply but i was referring to the original custom. I actually hate the custom 5 lol. Anyway i got these pups installed and i really like them. Best way i can describe them is sensitive and very responsive just lacking a bit in the extreme lows and highs on the pegasus. Sentient is awesome. Either way im keeping them great for playing fast!

Thanks for the demo, it was great! How would you compare the Pegasus to other bridge pickups from SD that you've played, like the Custom 5 or JB, etc.? From what I've heard from sound clips it seems the Pegasus has a loose / vintage sounding low end.

+AkiraSpectrum Thanks for watching! I have an ESP with a JB in the bridge and there are differences for sure. I find that the Pegasus is a bit more throaty and balanced than a JB. I didn't personally find the low end overally loose, but there are so many factors to consider I guess. Glad you dig the video! :)

Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, I guess I just can't put into words what I'm hearing, I guess loose is not the best way to describe it. There is just something about single notes on the 6th string having a very particular sound to them that differs from other medium and high output Duncans I've heard. Maybe some day I will be able to play the Pegasus and see what I think of it, demos online only get you so far :-P

You're totally right, the Nazgul is a brutal pickup. But works great for my set up and playing. I don't feel it's too thin or anything in a live sense. The Pegasus is great too, I often play my guitar with the Pegasus at home if I want to play various styles. :)
