Momota actually had a pretty big celebration after winning against Ginting at the Singapore Open this year. Momota thinks Ginting is the biggest threat (I read in a news article written in Japanese), and a win against him always means a lot to him. And, yes. The fact that he was playing for his country also made it more meaningful to him.

At GinTing's level, he need to sacrifice a lot of accuracies in order to penetrate Momota's defense using speed (e.g. aggressive clears/lifts to the backhand e.g. 26:44 , quick cross court drops/smash e.g. 35:07, setting up tight close net shots e.g. rally starting 51:36). At the same time, all of these strategies are risky and come with drawbacks especially against opponents like Momota. He made many unforced mistakes like 56:47, 1:07:57 (failed to lifting to backhand properly), 1:02:46 (failed to control the front net), and some miss placed smashes throughout the game (29:52, 31:48). These are unforced errors but are part of his play style -- GinTing can't drag the game to the third set; his stamina runs out in the third game almost every time against Momota. He has to bet on his performance (sometimes feed on lucky placements and opponent's mistakes) in the first two games, just because Momota has a better base game. He has to take the aggressive move first to disrupt Momota's base game. If he wants to beat Momota in the future, he should either improve his base game and stamina, or just try feed Momota more Ramen so he gets fat.

Man, I think you really got it. You cannot get both. You sacrifice accuracy (power and speed) when you seek power and speed (accuracy). If Ginting can improve his game so that he does not sacrifice accuracy as much as he does now while maintaining his impressive sharp and fast attacks, then he will be world No. 1. No doubt. It's hard, but it's possible given his awesome talent. I am Japanese and obviously Momota's fan. So, I hope that day never comes. Haha.

Ginting A number of unforced errors is the reason he has never been higher than world no.7 despite such a quick footwork and great attacking skills. Momota Look at the consistent defense and today especially in the crucial moments of second game, he used accurate attack. A highly balanced player, he is the world champion and world no.1. I hope Japan will surely win the final with history maker Momota. 頑張れ日本🇯🇵！！

Momota is not without his letdowns today, his normally reliable clears came up short a few times. Ginting’s errors remain his handicap but kudos to Momota for holding his nerves. Well done.

I really don't know how it comes!! Too much burdens and pressures on himself, worst performance I have ever witnessed. Actually I hope Ginting could beat Momota and two teams may play the fifth battle between Jordan/Melati &Watanabe/Higashino

Permainan Ginting amat baik. Hantaran lobnya jauh kebelakang dan menyukarkan kento membuat pukulan balas yang tajam. Cuma Ginting kurang stamina bandingan kento. Pergerakan Ginting lambat sedikit terutama mengambil bola bad hand. Ini memberi kelebihan kpd kento ketika menbuat serangan. Berat badan Ginting sekarang ngak sesuai dgn ketinggiannya. Ini boleh menyebabkan beliau mudah mendapat kecederaan terutama apabila ketemu pemain yg staminanya tinggi spt lee zee jia. Elok klu beliau mengurangkan berat badannya dan meningkatkan lg kecergasannya.

What the hell is with Ginting. He practically THREW the game away. There's hardly ANY shots he can't return and YET he just makes those errors. The reason why it feels like Momota was emotionally invested a lot is because he know that Ginting is formidable and he could have lost his winning streak to this match. Ginting does have some brilliant moments like 1:12:34 and many many more .. Still an exciting match although also disappointing.

Trận này Ginting thay đổi chiến thuật mà vẫn không thắng được. Đánh nhanh, nhập cuộc nhanh thắng set 1 nhưng đuối set 2 và bỏ luôn set 3. Đánh trận trọng, chậm lại thì thua luôn 2 set. Ginting dường như hết bài. Ngoài trừ Momota chấn thương, giờ Ginting rất khó ăn được Momota.

Minh Hiệp Lưu nhìn sơ thì nghĩ như bạn nhưng nhìn kỹ thì không phải vậy,đơn giản momota và Ginting thi đấu với trategy hoàn toàn khác nhau,Ginting chuyên công còn Momota chuyên thủ.Đẳng cấp Momota vẫn cao hơn vài bậc,Ginting tấn công nhiều nhìn nhanh,đẹp mắt nhưng hao sức và khi thấm mệt sẽ mistake nhiều, để defense được như Momota nó ở đẳng cấp cao hơn và dường như Momota càng lúc càng hiểu rõ lối đánh Ginting nên mình nghĩ từ đây về sau phải may mắn lắm Ginting mới thắng được 1 trận trước Momota,đặc biệt thời gian thi đấu càng dài vd như có set 3 thì momota càng lúc càng vượt trội về cuối trận.

Kỹ năng của Ginting k kém Momota là mấy. Thậm chí mình để ý một số đường cầu Ginting hơn Mômta. Nhưng về tâm lý thì Momota hơn hẳn. Nhịp thở tốt, bình tĩnh nên kiểm soát cầu tốt hơn!

Once again these commentators (Gill, Steen, and Morten) seem determined to give Kento Momota absolutely NO CREDIT at all. Watching this round of commentary, and the previous round (Malaysia) they've basically written him off as a "one dimensional", "one-trick pony" who will never be as good as Lin Dan or Lee Chong-Wei.

Yeah, I remember Gill and Morten were talking about how one-dimensional Momota is in his match against Lee Zii Jia. When some people stated that Gill does not like Momota before, I thought they were wrong and Gill is impartial. But, their comments in that match proved me wrong. She does dislike Momota. I think it's because she likes Axelesen so much that she just cannot get to like Momota, his nemesis. Against Momota, Axelsen looks like a baby most of the time. Apparently Morten and she forgot supposedly one-dimensional Momota beat Axelsen with not only precision, but also with creativity and injection of pace (just look how he played toward the end of All England Open Final) countless times. Morten was also saying in last year's world championship final that more physical and longer games favor Shi Yuqi. Oh boy, how wrong it has turned out to be. It's the other way around (just see how Momota beats Ginting and Yuqi in recent games). I like them as commentators, but sometimes I must question their judgement. Steen actually did not agree with Gill and Morten on these front in today's match. He did say that Momota looked better in early 2018 than he is now potentially because of lingering fatigue coming from playing so many mathces. Momota is actually his favourite player. You can tell by how he speaks of him. Check matches where he is a commentary for Momota's match. He basically always praises him. When Momota is not looking very impressive, he gives him an excuse (like fatigue). Haha. With that said, I gotta admit Momota did not look very impressive in this match though. I think he can do better.

Ginting probably needs to work on his consistency and mental aspect of the game, but he’s got the goods to be dominant. Momota on the other hand looked like he lapsed on his clears in this match and his normally reliable defenses.

Momota plays using his BRAINS while Ginting plays using his BUTT. Momota although not as strong has good stamina, skills and strategy. Control the pace well, and conserve energy.
