The fact that there is already an excessive amount of demand awaiting its absorption, despite how everyone is frightened and calling the crash, is another reason why it is less likely to occur that way. 2008 saw no one, at least not the broad public, making this forecast, as I'll explain below. The ownership rate was noted to have peaked in 2004 in the other comment. Having previously peaked in the second quarter of 2020, we are currently at the median level. Between 2008 and 2012, it dropped by 3%, and by the second quarter of 2020, it had dropped from 68 to 65.

So they crack down on this shelter for $700 a month but they leave derelict RVs with raw sewage going into the storm drains, 2-stroke generators supplying power, and foot traffic at all hours of the day and night. When our NGOs erect tent encampments on government-owned parking lots they typically cost $3,000 per month per 1-2-person tent. The homeless industrial complex contractors are buying their own wine country homes with cash (DEMA Consulting). I'd guess that the permits (which this place doesn't have) alone make this unprofitable at $700/pod. The amount of bureaucracy required to build this is why it's uncommon. The work to throw up 1 tent for $3000/month charged to the city is rubber stamped of course.

cause tourism (unchecked new people in your city) is a bigger drag on your city than what they add back through 'tourism dollars'. Local business are supposed to help build your community, whereas tourist are supposed to just enjoy your atmosphere and activities. Big business is bad, but small business (vast majority of SF business sphere despite big tech presence) should not be hounded to make yourself feel like you understand statistical analysis for this context, you just laid out two lines of fact, omitted plenty of useful material, and crafted a reduced ignorant narrative for yourself. You have learned to 'critic' things into your worldview but aren't open minded enough to keep learning. For you I'm sure 'simple explanation is the best' and small business is just another capitalist enemy against the great proletariat peoples, quickly lobby the government to sideline and inundate those little guy with disproportionate taxes and millions of pages of bureaucratic paperwork to dissuade them from engaging in local competition. While they do share a common space with everyone in the building, including things like bathrooms, kitchen, etc, they need to find a way to not classify these pods as bedrooms. As in San Francisco a bedroom must be 70 square feet with no less than 7 feet on a side, needs to have natural light and air (aka a window), must be at least 7'6", have 2 ways to exit (door and window) and have a closet. As long as they can prove (or claim) these aren't bedrooms they should be great as this is no different than someone sleeping on a couch, the fuzzy part is how renter's rights tie in here if they're using a bedroom to sleep in.

Bureaucracy is when people do not allow for changes when laws and regulations don't take things into consideration and they refuse to look for solutions. "It can't be done!" "Not on my watch" "I don't care" "I can't comprehend what the problem is so it doesn't exist" "We don't have time to improve". These are all excuses for people not wanting to go beyond what their idea of their job is. People that excel in their positions find solutions. This is not what government does, unfortunately. Fix one problem, and now 12 people are out of work. Sound familiar? Conservatism = "I'm comfortable with my problems" Progressivism = "We can make thing better"

LOL. Because these pods are WORSE than sleeping in tents, RVs or on the street in the City.

So they choose to enforce this on the few people who came to the city to actually work and try to be productive, if these entrepreneurs are successful they will be beneficial to San Francisco. Meanwhile the smash and grabs are ok, open air drug use is ok, sleeping in tents is ok. Make it make sense...

Imagine paying $700 a month to sleep in a storage container. You couldn't pay me enough to live in that shithole of a city, much less inside a fiberglass box.

😅😅 I love how these tech bros dry snitch on themselves and their slumlord by going to the local news to brag about their $700/month fire hazard - living arrangements. Too much "Artificial Intelligence" and zero "street Intelligence". When you have a "hook up" you keep your mouth zipped to protect such hook up.

There’s nothing wrong with pods except that price they are charging….should be much cheaper than that. If Japan can have pods for people to stay in….then the US can too….of course Japan’s look much nicer and modern. I think it’s time the US started looking at the tiny apartments Japan builds and build things like that to offer actual affordable housing….and I mean affordable….not the high prices these cities want to charge.
