Injury’s are one of the most common ways to wash out of any SOF selection. This video is tips that I had to learn the hard way throughout my time in the course. #specialforces #greenberet #dol #sfas #injuryprevention #injurymanagement

If you were in charge of designing the whole Q course, what would you change about the training vs. how the training is conducted now? Would you change anything?

Propper running shoes were a huge deal. My 4 years in the army I struggled with shin splints and heel pain. When I got out I got fitted correctly and now run pain free. Currently reservist looking into getting back into active and training up for SFAS💪🏼

Brooks have been my favorite running shoe. Glycerin model. Feels really comfortable.

I had shin splints and stress fractures in Infantry AIT. Broke my medical profile to do final FTX and PT test so I could graduate wit my unit, and not be recycled. Still had problems at unit for awhile. It sucked bigtime. Finally by body adapted and didn't have anymore problems.

Man depends on where we’re deployed. Afghan food was one of my favorites though.

Thank you for your advice in all your awesome videos. I just learned your channel just a couple days ago and already watched half of the videos. I’m curious do you recommend any specific programs to prepare for Selection such as 18A Fitness, or Thor3 program? Did you specifically use any of these programs? Thank you.
@ValhallaVFT
@ValhallaVFT 9 ай бұрын
I used Thor throughout my career once I was in group. I haven’t used 18A fitness but I have heard pretty good things from guys who have, I’ve heard it’s expensive though. I think there’s enough free information out there that it’s probably not needed.

How does the SF selection (in this case the Army) treat somebody who has been injured (I did serve the military but I was not special forces) I understand that if you get injured (for example BUDS you go back to the Fleet and back to your regular job (probably light duty) while you heal). So do you have to start completely over again or do they pick you up where you left off?
@ValhallaVFT
@ValhallaVFT 9 ай бұрын
It depends. When I went through there was a med hold, but if your injury took longer than 90 days to heal then you were dropped from the course. It may have changed, not sure. If you healed in time you could return to training where you left off, if you were dropped you would have to come back later from the beginning.

Training for an 18x contract and it sucks Training by myself cause i hand the tendency to over do it. Then again i don't have 12 months

Nothing wrong with training hard but be smart about it, going into SFAS injured is a sure way to fail. Biggest thing is limiting your pavement time, other than that over training isn’t a big deal.

Thank you for the video. What was your mindset and thought process going in as an 18x? Did you try to learn land nav and anything else you expected at selection beforehand?
@ValhallaVFT
@ValhallaVFT 10 ай бұрын
I already had decent experience with land nav, but you also do a good amount of it at SOPC, so you will get some good practice there before you have to do it at SFAS.

I had plantar fasciitis and I can't imagine going thru selection with it. Luckily, a solution that worked for me was: steroids, stretching, and ice. A podiatrist can inject your foot with Cortisone to break up the scar tissue. Then just stretch/ ice that shit to recovery. Also good supportive shoes don't hurt either
@ValhallaVFT

Dealt with off and on for a long time. Never had it to the point of injections fortunately.

@@MVK_GS That's good to hear! Mine got bad to the point that a doctor 4 years ago said that if I don't start stretching, I won't be able to walk by the time I turn 40. I was told that at 20. Very humbling. So I focused on recovery so I can still walk 20 years down the road. It's good to hear that it's possible to go thru the pipeline with plantar!

another question. After getting selected can you volunteer to attend ranger school? Also for dive school to attend do you have to be on the dive team?
@ValhallaVFT
@ValhallaVFT 10 ай бұрын
Once you get to group, ranger school is a 100% thing you can do, super easy to go, if you don’t get sent my your team sergeant anyway. Dive school is also an easy one as most guys don’t want to do it, so anyone can volunteer to go to the maritime assessment course, and if you pass that you’ll go to dive school.
