Only now I realized another layer of brilliance of that scene. We are surrounded by Vortigaunts, which are quite monstrous in their appearance and clearly alien. Yet they are friendly, are trying to help and clearly care out the outcome of all this. THEN the G-Man walks in and while looking human, you can feel that he is the one to be feared in this situation, a real alien

Gmans employers (valve) keep making him torture Gordon in order to make more half life games to sell to consumers. This is why half life 3 hasn’t been released because Gaben decided to give Gordon a break and make Alyx carry the burden
@RabdoInternetGuy
@RabdoInternetGuy Жыл бұрын
@@christhefirstGman even says he "nudges" things(changes plot at will, plot covienience) also seems like he has some heavy freakin Plot-Power-Armor, being imprisoned by the Combine, having Cpl. Shepherd deactivate his Nuke, yet still works in the end, Gordon Betrays him yet he finds a way to profit off it (using Freeman as a vessel between Gman and Alyx) heck he might've even told the Advisors where White forest, and in turn Eli was, so Eli gets his brain succed and strider fight to cut off a loose end once it has done its job(Gordon delivered alyx to White Forest) and then Profits on it by going back in time, letting himself be captured and Alyx Break him free to gain a new Hire or Protege to replace the old one. He gives the Chrystal to Black Mesa, and accidentally profits on it by seeing how capable Dr. Freeman and Cpl. Shepherd are. He still has limitations (Being grounded in inuniverse Plot and Reality) by going back in time for alyx he was bending the rules of his Employment, careful not to break them, and kinda rebelling against his employers, as in hl1 he's doing Exactly was he was told by them, emotionlessly, clean, cold, yet as the Series continues he becomes more self rightous, and influenced by emotion, as in Hl1 he's just busniss, and then he rescues alyx from black mesa, then in Hl2 intro he seems to be acting a bit more friendly, almost trying to sound reassuring like a friend, instead of sounding like HR, then at the end of HL2 he congratulates Gordon personally, and at start of Episode 1 he seems to have taken Gordon's betrail personally, he sounds offended. And in the Heart to Heart, he clearly shows suppressed emotions, sounds as if he's plotting something big, and of course Heart to heart name is supposed to be showing of that.

I think it's because the gman is surprisingly one of the best interpretations of an eldritch entity in general We don't know what he wants, we don't know what he is, we don't know if he even counts as a living being, and worst of all: What we actually do know is that there's multiple someones or somethings above him He's perfect, the more we know about him, the less we want to
@TheAngryOnion

@@RabdoInternetGuy I've never considered Gordon to be betraying him. The vortigaunts broke him out of statis, but just continued to follow the path layed before him. Storyline wise we were never told not to continue what we were doing. That's the one thing that bugs me. Like Gordon has no way of contacting him asking if he can do stuff.

Look at Black Mesa and there is already an answer.
@Fem_V
@Fem_V Жыл бұрын
Crowbar collective did it. Black mesa is a phenomenal remake of HL1 however arguably not up to valve's standards in map design or gameplay otherwise the revival of the aesthetics in the maps especially Xen was just a masterpiece. Really the only issue with the game is the lack of direction in maps that players can get lost quite easily with unused doors that seem intractable and ladders that seem climbable and they look like the way forward, the collapsed parking garage is guilty of this. In terms of gameplay valve intentionally coded the grunt enemies to stand still while shooting, in black mesa they move while shooting and they are deadly accurate leading to frustrating fights while as well all of them attack unlike in HL1 it was coded that only 2 attacked you at once, so the AI is vastly different and not to valve's 'vision'. one last thing are the saves really, i even had times where my the autosaves were at moments of death, had one at the fight outside of the rocket silo where you watch the rocket gets launched, the game randomly saved as i was running for cover with grunts shooting at me, due to that bloody annoying mounted machine gun the save resulted in deaths until after like 20 tries i managed to slip a victory in. Lastly, Xen levels i feel like were overly stretched, the amount of cable puzzles were unneeded and again some objectives made no sense like shooting the white 'balloon' things to make the cores go critical. Otherwise the game did what it was advertised to do, a remake by heart, they could absolutely do well in HL2 but they have to improve their gameplay and map design to not confuse the players or create a frustrating game. All they need for HL2 are voice actors and since source 2 exists the assets are available with updated quality, they can reuse HLA assets and it would be perfectly fine.

Perfect amount of movement and facial expression - not too static, but not too fluid either; people sometimes seem to forget that, even though he looks -hotter- more human in HL:A, he is still the same creature of unknown truth, and thus should keep his mannerisms kept in that nice spot of the Uncanny Valley.

Since the ending of Alyx, I feel like this whole scene has a way different kind of weight to it. Initially it seems like the G-Man had his personal reasons to save Alyx, but now with said conclusion it is more like he foresaw the potential "betrayal" of Freeman at the whim of the Vortigaunts. And with Mark Laidlaw's Epistle 3 it seems like a time shift like that was necessary to carry out the true wishes of...whoever is really in charge.

It's confirmed he was going in reverse starting in episode 1. Gman couldn't do anything because the detonation spawned another one. However, intel she got was valuable, gman doesn't appear in the citadel at all. Only around it. The naysayers was probably Breen himself when he said children are not valuable. He appears in white forest due to being able to.

@@salsamancer Handily disagree there. Whoever...or whatever, he works for is no friend of the Combine. It's more likely there was some other objective his employers had for opening the portal to Xen, and the Combine is yet another maleficent entity that saw a window of opportunity and took it.

This was really well done. I always love seeing half life animations and seeing such a memorable scene remade with these models was awesome. Only thing I should point out at 2:20 is that in the original another gman is supposed to be sitting on the table next to Alyx in the background where the vort is, though that's not to big of a deal since its very subtle and can barely see him behind foreground gman anyway. I just watched it so I don't have criticism but man When I first saw this scene (kept myself mostly spoiler-free for Ep2) the hairs in my neck stood up. I deadass got goosebumps and felt... idk if scared is the word? But I froze and could only listen to G-Man talking. As I've seen this cutscene over and over again through the years, that feeling has vanished a little, as it is to be expected when you watch something repeatedly. But your remake brought some of that feeling back, it's absolutely pant-shitting to be facing the G-Man again after almost forgetting he was there, lurking. The balance between changes and fidelity to the original really helps you tie the new visuals with the original experience. If there's ever a remake to HL2 and its episodes, I hope it's at the very least as good as this or I'm burning valve's paperweights.

I love rhe G Man's inflections during this scene. He almost sounds like he's taking down to you, and when he refers to your "Small repayment" it's done so with the sternness of a father disciplining their child. He talks like he's knows he's stronger than you, like he knows far more than you, and because of that, he speaks with a condescending tone that's both infuriating and mysterious.
