I did this because after a while like 65 secs all my models crumple up and start to disappear even though i have extended the time they can be on the timeline, and i dont want to have to model EVERYTHING again on a new session, not sure what to do.

If the models you want to selects are all in a line (on top of each other) , left click the first model to select it, hold Shift then Left Click the last model you want to select. If the models are staggered through the model list, Left click the first you want to select, hold control and Left click the models you want to select.

I can't put "shot2" next to "shot1" in the clip editor. Sfm won't let me do that.

Correct, it won't. Create a slug or empty clip in front of Shot1 then try to move Shot2 in front of Shot1. when happy, delete the slug/empty clip.

Thanks , but I figured out the cause of problem. The shot from the other session was too long to fit next to the shot in the session I was working on. Silly me, right?

I did it in one session where I used a head-hack or whatever is called, when Im trying to copy and paste to the other sessions where im workin, the head just dissapear, from both sessions. You know what is wrong there?

Not sure, but, after doing the import from the other session, make sure the locks are still there and the scale is the same as in the other session.

TheUnique1 I use the method laid out in the Valve Developer WiKi here, so if you’re getting errors or things aren’t working properly then you must be missing a step somewhere.

Is there a good way to copy a groupped modelhacked model? Like, I have a rigged model that consists of 3 others stuck together, all groupped nicely, but I can't just right-click on a group and copy-paste it, plus copying anything with added clothing or just anything with locks tends to break, any ideas on how to help this?

Not that I am aware of. Because your hack models are made up of 2 or whatever number models, you have to bring all the models that make them up into the new session. The only way to get around this is too actually create new custom models of the hacks in a 3d Editor so you can just open them in SFM.

are these projects you did a long time ago? For example created in a version of SFM that is from a different version you're currently using? (I know SFM hasn't updated since 2015, but compatibility between versions was not that great when SFM was being updated.)

You might be moving the entire model. Certain models can only be moved with root transform, which will keep them from doing that!

I got away from using SMDs and VTAs when I discovered the power of ShapeKeys and DMX files. The only flex controllers I have to define are the ones that control the eyes now. Go to the Valve Developer Wiki, they have a fairly good section on VTA and flex naming conventions.

The session on the other computer will be in your usermod\elements\sessions folder. If you have network shares, copy that session file and put it in the usermod\elements\sessions to the computer your working on. If you're using custom models/maps, particles, etc in your session, they have to be on the computer you're working on as well or the session will open with error models.

Extra skins have to be added to the qc using $texturegroup commands at compile time. You can add directly in SFM if you want and it's just the Basetexture that is being replaced. If you are trying to add a texture by calling a VMT from the model, then you have to do it in the QC.

Unfortunately, if the skin doesn't already exist in the model, then there are only 2 (maybe 3) things you can do.1) If the model has multiple skins, you could change the VMT basetexture for one you don't plan to use and call your dirty texture from that using the BodyGroup/Skin script available in the workshop.2) Spawn a Second model and use an override materials to swap out the main texture on the dupe and keep it from displaying/rendering by clicking the eyeball beside it in the animationset Editor. Lock the original to the dupe so it picks up and uses any animations. When it is time to switch skins, Blade the shot. Turn off the original and turn on the dupe. The reason I say spawn it and turn it off is that when you blade the shot, both models will be pasted into the new shot.3) Recreate the model and add the dirty texture to it using the $texturegroup command in the qc. Those are your options.
