At this point I don't even know what's better. SFM haven't been updated in years, which is kinda the bad thing, but on the other hand every single tutorial made over a decade ago is still relevant. Blender gets updates regularly, which is supposed to be good, but in reality it makes every single guide obsolete because they overhaul their entire UI just to make it "newbie friendly" for the whateverth time, which is kinda weird, because if someone (talking from personal experience) is going to learn any software (be it for Art or anything else), the very first thing they're gonna to after installing it (even before starting) is to look up a KZbin tutorial. I learned using SFM mostly by myself, but at the very beginning I had to look for guides just to know what the main buttons do (ex. you have to select Motion Editor to actually move models)

@@SwishyBros Hey man, sorry for this but i need help :( When I load the No Mercy map there are 3 walls that are blank and in "Nodraw" Also throughout the map there are objects such as boxes and vending machines that are in random places and there are textures in places where they should not be.

Of course, there is a Puppet script that allows you to transfer animations from one character to another, but if, for example, the model’s bones are named differently and it cannot be compiled after decompilation. But the video is still useful and I learned new information about SFM.

A quick question.. In the aftermath of importing the animation to a certain model in SFM, in terms of sequence, do they automatically place the frames within the graph editor section, based on what we've applied to a certain animation cycle? For example, let's say that I have decided to make a walking cycle from scratch. On a new session, I apply the animation cycle I made the same model I used to carry out the cycle. Will the frames be automatically placed in the graph editor? One time, it did before, but for some reason it's not doing it now.. maybe because I toggled one thing to cause it to lay out the frames.

I tried using this method using a Scout with a walk cycle as the base, and a custom Spring Trap model (steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406783628&searchtext=spring+trap) to copy the animation to. The body seemed to work fine, but the limbs seem to stretch and at times detach from each other. Also, the limbs don't seem to rotate past the body (like one of the arms might swing forward, but won't swing back). In fact, it seems like it resets after every step it takes, only to take another step, and then reset.

The process is resource intensive (at times) and if the constraints are not set properly, it can be too much for SFM to bear and it bails, especially if it is a huge model and you're setting a lot of constraints.

Don't copy the root transform or there is a setting in the animation importer that allows you to ignore the root transform position.

***** Well this is unfortunate. I after locking the pelvis to each other, I can't do anything to the scout model without SFM saying: "SFM has stopped working". I can't even delete the model or even select it. Therefore, my file has been corrupted and I had to start all over. You should include within the desc that models such as l4d can corrupt your SFM on some computers. (Mine is a very decent computer with decent specs)

when I do this, the animations (especially in the leg area) are the same, but the model I'm trying to get to imitate the motion has a ''wider'' motion? Trying with custom models.

You have to remember the adult/child relationship here. What I mean by this is it’s like a grown man trying to walk in long strides but only has an infants range of motion. If the bones of the 2 models are not in the same location or the same length then you could end up with one model trying to stride and stretch if the bones are shorter than the parent or do baby steps if they longer. It’s all in how the animation compare to one another.

Why dont I get that green trace of the animation in the scene ? I'm using csgo tho, I dont get it when I select sequences the animation (feets) keep playing in 1 position without moving...

+DS Not sure what you're trying to say here. The green animation (dotted line) isn't going to show up unless you select a body part that has a movement animation. If you look at around 11:04 here I select the pelvis of the combine soldier and it has movement through space. That movement is represented by the green dotted line.

+VanillaBlitz You may have missed a step, something to do with applying the constraints to the model you're applying the animation to before you remove them. Walk through the video at that point. You may find the step you've missed.

Dragoulus I have never had Blender crash because I’ve selected something. Things you might look at are what background programs you have running and try shutting those down. For example if you have a Nvidia GPU and have GeForce experience running with overlays turn on, turn off overlays. There may be some shortcut key conflicts that are causing the crash.

That would be a pose to pose animation and way above the beginner level theme I'm trying to maintain here. You could actually do it in SFM proper, or create animation models in a 3d editor and export the model as a DMX animation and import that to SFM. the process is practically the same, all pose to pose for each model you want to include in the dance routine. An extremely tedious and hard thing to do, especially for a tutorial. One thing you could do though is create the routine on one model, then use the puppet script off that one and puppet it to others like I did here kzbin.info/www/bejne/lanJnHSBqpmSf5Y

+Boele Compaan Once you have everything constrained and the walk sequence working, if the model doesn't move forward on it's own because the animation is an "In Place" type animation, you have to manually animate the forward motion (Keyframe plants and drag the root transform in the graph editor or offset time and pull the root transform in the motion editor)

Copy a pose? To a twin of the same model or a different model? To a twin, just copy and paste the pose to the other model, if a different model, Check out the puppet script in the workshop.

I don't know how many times I've said this but here we go again. Because most videos out there assume the user has an intermediate knowledge of the programs I show, I make tutorials for the new person just starting out. They are long and repetitive. I go over processes from start to finish, throwing in common bugs the new user will encounter and the fix require to get them through. If I were making these for the intermediate user, they would be a lot quicker and a lot less explained.

It may be a scale thing one model is a lot bigger than the other or your not following the process properly and missing a step.
