12:53 that's because Suez Canal and Panama Canal works in different ways. Suez Canal works because altitude of water is bigger than altitude of land. Panama canal makes water go up with the ships. Because Panama is mountinous.

There is an easier way to see cores. In the diplomacy map mode, you can see cores with green stripes and Union Cores (Germany, Italy) with yellow stripes.

Btw, if you've ever done US in GFM, what happens if you do All of Mexico besides a containment war? How do you also get Canada as core?

I haven't ever conquered the whole of Mexico or canada in GFM.

There is a decision for US after fully contesting the UK over British Columbia(the most aggressive option) called crusade for Canada that gives infamy and cores over all of Canada and also leads to more decisions to kick out all euros from the Americas and reorganize everyone into puppets after sphering them. Taking all of Mexico isnt needed for this, and there isnt any follow up decisions for doing so iirc. It costs allot of infamy to go down this path, so be prepared for containment wars. When I did this I released several small nations from the remnants of Mexico because each gives -2 infamy and let me better prepare for the big anti-european crusade.

to annex all of canada you have to get the entirety of british columbia in the columbian disupte (if you have max relations with the british chances are they will give it up. Try to also have a big military to increase chances of you getting it) and then you get an annexation bill which costs a lot of infamy but leads to events which allow you to take over the entirety of the americas as puppets with some being land you actually get.
