Fantastic video mate! There's nothing better than travelling on a newly opened expressway. Loved how the surrounding landscape transitioned from rural to increasingly urban as you drove into Greater Houston. Liked and subscribed! 😀

5:20 Only the southern direct connectors of Texas Tollway 249 at Texas Highway 99 the Grand Parkway Toll Road were built in August of 2022, which is the time that I moved from Texas to Tennessee when I was 14.

7:25 South of Texas Beltway 8 the Sam Houston Tollway, only a major thoroughfare of Texas Highway 249 exists, which will hopefully be turned into a freeway soon, connecting towards its southern terminus at I-45 ten miles north of downtown Houston.

0:37 At the time of typing this comment on Mysterious Future's Texas Highway 249 video in November of 2021, the third and final section of the Aggie Tollway was built on 26 January of 2023, which will hopefully extend westerly towards Texas Highway 6 in the small grassland city of Navasota, located between the greater Brazos valley region and the town of Hempstead at US-290 where it turns from a freeway into an at-grade rural highway.

0:55 As of March of 2024, Texas Highway 249 connects from Texas Highway 6 in the small grassland city of Navasota all the way southeasterly towards I-45 ten miles north of downtown Houston, despite most of its length being a tollway. The final northern miles of Texas Highway 249 are along Texas Highway 105, while the final southern miles of Texas Highway 249 is a major thoroughfare in the urban suburb of Northwestern Houston.

It would have been nice if the "Pay by Mail Ends" signs (3:22, 3:39) specifically directed drivers without tags to exit at Woodtrace. The one at 3:39 says Pay by Mail Ends 1/2 mile, which is after the Woodtrace exit... although the distance is referring to the end of the TxDOT segment specifically (at 3:44) rather than for the last exit for Pay by Mail users (when the distances should refer to the latter, as this is what matters for drivers). Those who unknowingly stay on the SH-249 mainline after the Woodtrace exit face violation fees from MCTRA/HCTRA.

Hey Mr. Mysterious Future, when is your Texas Highway 249 video from Plantersville/Navasota to northwestern Houston video coming out? I knew that your most recent video was back in August of 2022, featuring Arizona Highway 64 from Williams to the Grand Canyon, and that was when my KZbin channel wasn't even created yet.

Ok. So you enter Houston proper after the Grand Parkway (upcoming) interchange, but leave it after the Sam Houston Tollway interchange? City limits are weird...
@MysteriousFuture3 жыл бұрын
Yea, the Houston city limits are unusual due to the many surrounding towns that once were separate from Houston physically many decades ago not wishing to be annexed and retain their own local power (like Jersey Village)

@@MysteriousFuture Houston did a lot of "strip annexation" before the state legislature banned it. There are large areas in the northern Houston metro area where a strip of land (eg. along FM-1960 and other major corridors) and its associated commercial property are inside Houston city limits, but where adjacent residential neighborhoods are unincorporated. Fort Worth also has a pretty aggressive annexation policy, but unlike Houston, new developments inside Fort Worth's extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ; basically land that a city has a right to annex) tend to get annexed into the city limits pretty quickly. Those previous strip annexations also gave Texas cities plenty of ETJ for (potential) future annexation.
