Shōgayu literally means “ginger hot water” in Japanese and is a delicious tea made in the colder months of the year. With loads of fresh ginger steeped in boiling water, this soothing ginger tea will warm you up from the inside out. Ginger is brimming with antioxidants and anti-inflammatories and paired with vitamin C from the lemon juice; this tea is a great way to give your immune system a boost. Adding honey to this ginger tea not only sweetens it, it’s also a great way to soothe a sore throat. In this episode we have a special guest, see how many times you can spot him hidden throughout the video. Also, stick around to the very end for bloopers! #gingertea #ginger #cookingwithdog

Hello, Marc! Shōgayu is so delicious, and thank you for the video lesson on how to make it! It's a wonderful surprise to see Francis in the video, too. That is so much fun! I need to try making this. I have powdered ginger honey tea. I drink it as a hot beverage, but I also use it as an ingredient. I blend it with pear juice or apple juice and make granita in the summer. It's so refreshing. Thanks again for the great video!

Thanks for watching Erin! I love the idea of using ginger tea as a base for granita! I’m going to have to try that this summer😄

No Recipes Yes! I've also used it as part of the ingredients for homemade gelatin. Again, I've combined it with pear or apple juice. That works well. I've also combined it with fruit smoothies for gelatin, which makes an odd-looking end product, but it tastes good. It's so much better than the powdered, sugary boxed gelatin mixes, and it's nice to have the ginger flavor. Sending good wishes your way!

I agree with Kuro neko, it’s an adorable collaboration! I love your vitality I have only just visited your channel for the first time since chef recommended it on cooking with dog. I’ll be sure to check out some of your other recipes, and for those of you who do not know the channel cooking with dog I strongly recommend it it’s what got me into home cooking Japanese food in the first place. In the old videos you can actually see Francis who sadly passed away at half has managed to cutely continue to bring across the favourable feeling we all built over the years.

Great idea! The honey is totally optional. In summer I like to steep some fresh mint with the ginger before straining and chilling it. Then I have it with a squeeze of lemon. So refreshing.
