24:58 you actually make a very good observation here. In the books the line blackthrone says is slightly different due to the context of the talk. In the book he is asked about the war between England, Spain and Portugal, and Blackthrone explains that England is fighting on the side of Holland who is in rebellion against Spanish rule. Toronaga quips that there is no mitigating circumstances for a subject to rebel against his lords. To which Blackthorne replies “unless you win” Which resonates with Toronaga as you said as he himself may soon be forced into similar circumstances and as Toronaga notes, there is very little that can mitigate a man’s rebellion against his lords except if the rebel wins. In which case, you get to decide the outcome of your decisions.

Historical facts The Bateren Edict (1587) Toyotomi Hideyoshi got furious when he found out that the Jesuits were selling Japanese abroad as slaves and breaking down Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines. San Felipe incident (1596) On October 19, 1596, the Spanish ship San Felipe was shipwrecked on Urado in Kōchi on the Japanese island of Shikoku en route from Manila to Acapulco in the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade. The local daimyō Chōsokabe Motochika of the Chōsokabe clan that ruled Tosa province during the Sengoku Era seized the cargo of the richly laden Manila galleon, and the incident escalated to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, ruling taikō of Japan. The pilot of the ship suggested to Japanese authorities that it was Spanish modus operandi to have missionaries infiltrate a country before an eventual military conquest, as had been done in the Americas and the Philippines. This led to the crucifixion of 26 Christians in Nagasaki, the first lethal persecution of Christians by the state in Japan. The executed were later known as the Twenty-Six Martyrs of Japan.

You're funny, so excited about Blackthorne's English supremecy, lol. He's there on behalf of the Dutch though and the English...well, they did plenty of colonizing of their own, didn't they? Claiming all sorts of lands they had no right to in the name of the Queen. The Portuguese just got to China/Japan first, is all. But I get it - we like Blackthorn, so we root for him. And he's a great character - very clever, very quick to adjust his behavior to fit in with whoever he's trying to impress or charm. Lady Mariko's loyalty will always be to Lord Toranaga - the Church comes far second so we can trust her as much as Toranaga does (a lot). Now, Ishida also dislikes the hold the Catholic Church has over its growing number of believers, and it favors the lord who have converted. While he doesn't at this point care about Blackthorn, he might want his own chance to ask some questions about how to gain the upper hand over the local Church leaders - or to allow Toranaga to expose secrets before being killed off. That would make it easier for Ishida to get rid of the other Regents after Toranaga. Plans within plans within plans going on here. And who exactly is Yabushige betraying? Did he turn on Toranaga or did Toranaga use him to lead Ishida into thinking it was a good idea to delay Blackthorn's execution? We don't know - and Yabushige could be playing both sides against each other.

That whole scene before the vote was just showing Ishido isnt happy with his situation. Bros basically in a 9 to 5 job, he was a samurai, but now stamps documents like a office worker, and he hates it

You should go out into the world and read specialized books on history. The fact is Korea has a history as a vassal state of China, where the king of Korea greeted Chinese envoys by hitting his head on the ground nine times until his forehead bled. However, Koreans living in a fantasy world are happy.
