Composed by Robert Schumann Symphony No. 4 in D minor Philharmonia Orchestra Conductor: Otto Klemperer Studio sessions from February to May 1960 In his recollections, Otto Klemperer said that he always felt great pleasure when performing Schumann's symphonies. Nowhere is this more true than in this performance of Schumann's Fourth Symphony. All the movements are consistently full of wonderful vitality, indicating that the virtuosity of the Philharmonia Orchestra at this time was not half as high as it should have been.
