INTP: Isn't all enculturation a kind of programming if feelings? But then neurologically we know that it begins in the brain, which can certainly be influenced and shifted… perhaps the real question is why can't we program our *own* feelings… xxTJ: Holy sh*t, will you FOCUS? Why are you wasting time? INTP: Why *am* I wasting time…?
@Ten-kc2yp4 жыл бұрын
Thoughts from an INTP: I haven't given this much thought but environment around us program our feelings to some extent, if you grow up somewhere where killing people is normal, then you would have no feeling when seeing other people being killed, on the other hand, if you grow up somewhere where killing is deemed as a terrible thing to do, then you would feel bad seeing someone get killed. But then again, this theory doesn't work on psychopaths and such, but they know how they should feel, that's why environment (m8 as well say society) program our emotion TO SOME EXTENT. About emotion programming like AI-ish, that would be quite the hassle to develop the technology for, since so far we only can make a digital life-form of a worm. It would be such delight to be able to delete emotions, though.

@@Ten-kc2yp why did you choose killing tho,I'm an entj and I feel offended by what you're saying. I haven't gone through all the possibilities just yet." "I thought about that already. There's another possibility." * Stares down with moving eyebrows, betraying internal monologue. * "You misunderstand. I don't have to be the one who's right, I just need to know what's true." "Don't rush me." * Listening to you with his head tilted, literally considering things under a different angle. * "When I don't have anything worthwhile to say, I stay quiet." "I have no idea if he likes me." "Geez, people can be really stupid." "On one hand ..." "I never thought about that... I like this." "Still thinking about it." * Smiles awkwardly for too long. * "I disagree." "I'm bored." "Do I like her? How could I know, we just met two months ago." "Close, but still inaccurate." "Oh ok, that's cool. I guess." "Meh, whatever." * Just disappeared for two weeks, doesn't want to talk about it. * "Everything is fine." "It doesn't matter if I or anybody likes it or not, it's true." "There's still time." "I don't need help." "I'm waiting for the right time." "What would happen if that was true?" "Confirmation bias is ubiquitous." "Emotions are fuzzy concepts, and I'm very attached to accurate language. I'd rather show you than talk about them." Internally: "Oh, I'm about to cross that person in the corridor. Does she expect me to greet her? No, she's walking fast, probably busy, better not interrupt her. On the other hand, she's looking forward, not avoiding eye contact. Oh she just looked at me briefly, is she about to greet me? If she says hello I need to answer back. Maybe I should start a conversation. Wait, what do I say? Think about my last weekend. No, I stayed home lazily, that will bore her. Better let her engage the conversation and react. Then again, maybe she's on her way and doesn't want to talk to me. We don't know each other well after all. Should I leave her alone? Oh shit our paths are about to cross, what do I do? Keep you head down and look at the floor, pretend you're in your thoughts. Wait that wouldn't be nice. I'm out of time. Just walk through and don't disturb people. She said hi. Damned, I already decided I would pretend not to hear it. It's been a second already, it would be awkward to answer now. So what, you're already awkward anyway. At least be polite." *Feigning surprise, but with apathetic voice due to leaving no time for that.* "Oh huh, hi."

ENTPs are fun. They stimulate your mind with TONS of great ideas (Ne), drawing parallels between all sorts of philosophies and phenomenon you might have otherwise never seen as connected. You just have to make sure to use your Ti to fact-check and not get swept up in their charisma, because occasionally their logic is flawed or their ideas aren't realistic. Edit: Oh, I almost forgot to mention, they come up with fantastic metaphors too! If you ever need help creating a metaphor for an abstract logical concept, ask an ENTP. I'm always surprised at how many KZbinrs are ENTP.
@stephenholmes93866 жыл бұрын
Can confirm the metaphor thing. I'm an ENTP and attempting to use analogies and metaphors to explain concepts to different people is one of my favourite things to do. It's because Ne-Ti is focused around understanding the mechanism of the idea, then Ne and Fe can produce a great condensed version which still contains the core information in a form others can understand easily.
@heatherbryant41976 жыл бұрын
@@stephenholmes9386 INTPs are quite familiar with those functions as well. But the rearrangement in an ENTP (namely Ne > Ti) does seem to make a big difference. I've always thought I was good at creating analogies, metaphors, and allegories; but whenever I find myself blown out of the water, in terms of complexity or the unexpected connection between so many (seemingly) dispirate philosophies or ideas, it's always an ENTP to blame!

I'm an INTP, and trust me, that's a stereotype. Instead of stuff like "my knowledge is superior" and "how could you think that? Your logic is flawed", I typically say stuff like "hey how do I _____", "(insert random fact I forget by noon)", and "What's your opinion on _____?"
@uncertainboy88936 жыл бұрын

I definitely don't just come right out and tell people that they're wrong. If anything, my full attention is on the actual assertion being made. If it seems plainly wrong to me, then I'll pick apart at the reasoning and ask for clarification as to why it should make sense to me. I'm much more likely to say things like, "how does that actually work?", "what do you mean by [unclear term]?", "...okay, but have you ever considered [alternate possibility]?", or "well, it obviously depends on the context, but..." However, if someone is just being unreasonable about factual information, then I might tell them that facts are facts and they are simply wrong, followed by references to multiple sources confirming my point.

As another INTP, I agree. While I do value logic a lot in a contradictory society, I avoid unnecessary conflict by being considerate of other people's feelings. While I forget to express compassion to others, I avoid offending others by being polite and considerate of their feelings and who am I to be arrogant? Intelligence and knowledge are not synonymous as Albert Einstein, a famous INTP, said "Imagination is more important than knowledge." As an INTP, I dislike how intelligence is seen as equating to a lack of emotional intelligence in a career-based society that is centered around obedience. Being an asshole does not equate to being intelligent; it equates to being an insecure socially inept conformist, as in conforming to a society that glorifies violence out of fear of being perceived as "weak", because society causes others to falsely believe that kindness and compassion are "weak" traits.

"None of this matters in the grand scheme of things. But it's still fascinating when you think about it." "It's ok, I can fix it." "Your way, my way, doesn't matter as long as we do it the efficient way." "Respect is something you earn, it doesn't come with the title/degree." I ofc was having a ball bc it explained so much and was so enlightened but was kinda disappointed (disaPPOINTEDDD meme insert) when she didn't see how amazing it was that I figured out major parts of the puzzle. In fact, she seemed hurt/offended by the differences i pointed out but all of that being offended and hurt just got in the way of seeing the facts! and look now you can go forth being wiser and stronger!! Yes, I feel like this type of psychology/typology can offer great insights into why people are seemingly compatible with some but not others, why certain people tend to have conflicts and misunderstandings, how two people working toward the same goal can clash when they have completely different values, motives, or reasons for pursuing that goal. It can feel like a bit of an epiphany seeing human behavior and especially interpersonal interaction through the lens of cognitive functions. When you get really into it, you might find it colors your perception of _everything._ I often catch my internal dialogue saying things like, "That's such a Te way of thinking," or "Wow. The Fe is strong with this one!" (Just not out-loud or people think I'm crazy lol). But I don't think it's the answer to everything. I think it's important to remember human behavior is shaped by Nurture as well as Nature, genetics (though I often wonder if the archetypes have a genetic element), even epigenetics, and the influence of confounding variables like psychological disorders (though some might argue many "disorders" are just extreme examples of certain type characteristics and resulting from overactive cognitive functions, rather than influencing or dampening them). I don't think the MBTI takes all aspects of psychology into account, but it certainly is widely applicable. I also have Ne and Ti so yeah, it's like solving puzzles... psychoanalyzing people. P.s. Your mom may have been offended by your enthusiastic demeanor. She probably has a lot of hurt and painful memories associated with divorce and she might not have understood you were excited because of the thrill of having that "Eureka" moment in solving what seemed like a mystery. Your parents' incompatibilities may have been no mystery to her. Perhaps she just didn't want to be reminded of it.

I should include that she had come to this conclusion without me and before speaking with me about it. She then asked me several times if it was work that was a prob for me. (I was kinda stuck at the time knowing i needed another breakthrough after getting a divorce then going gluten free and then subsequently discovering all my other food allergies). I had told her its not the job several times. One day i finally said okay sometimes im not sure its work but all i mean by that is that I've explored it. I've been through the whole conundrum of taking every possible mbti/cog function test, comparing results and looking for constants, reading about mbti and how functions manifest in different positions, asking for typing on reddit, posting a type-me video here on youtube, watching youtube videos... in short, yes, it's a journey heh. But I think Ne is a good guess; not wanting to close the window of possibilities and reach a conclusion when new information is constantly coming your way.

We exactly do the same things (take many tests about functions, mbti or even enneagram/big five, read a lot about the theory, ask for a typing... Except the type-me video because I'm not very at ease with my body so, show it to strangers, no thanks...). I think we are addicted to. I correlate mbti to all what I do, see, hear and so on. What's your enneagram type? I'm a clear 5 (with four wing) so it leaves me few possibilities (INxx or ENTP even if it's an extroverted type, there is about 20% of extroverts who are fives and many are ENTPs because they are the less extroverted of extroverts). Knowing your "enneatype" can reduce the possibilities to some... If you're four, I doubt you can be T for example. But maybe you can't figure out your enneagram too? About the "'Ne theory", I've read that INFPs are more prone to do that because of their Fi-dom. They love project their fantasies into their identities and switch with them.

XNTP here. I literally tried to take out my contacts when they were already out once. It wasn't my proudest moment.

When ppl ask me: "How is your day?" I need some time to think about it, every time. Sometimes I don't understand why I don't how is my day, LOL

One time I was late for work because I got so caught up playing Final Fantasy IX that I completely lost track of time, and I yelled at my nephew to help me find my glasses... the ones I had on... while combing my hair in front of a mirror... Definitely one of my most INTP moment ever.

I am Intp/Entp (maybe slightly more of an E on the percentage) but these were pretty accurate.. Especially being unable to choose and seeing the truth in everything, so true for me oh my god. Also losing glasses like that has happened to me all 3 ways and getting distracted online CONSTANTLY by random weird things and trying a bunch of online courses *face palm.* I'm always distracted, questioning, and changing my mind and thats probably why I'm here living with parents at 22 and can't get my shit together.

Funny, I do see myself in there. I'm an INTP, but I do have to say that no self respecting INTP would say that windows is better. (We all use Linux :) ) I suppose a better one would be "What's better? Blackarch or Kali?" Or if you REALLY want to impress an INTP then say "What's better? Linux or MenuetOS?". Trust me they will love you if you bring up MenuetOS, it's a bit of a hidden gem in the computer world. ;) Just tell them "I've got a MenuetOS VM installed on my Suse native!" and I guarantee, you've pulled!
